Mesa Falls in eastern Idaho, on the drive to Yellowstone. The bluish, whitewater falls is shaded by trees and careening over the basaltic cliff along the lower right. The sun hits the mist rising from the roiling water, creating a beautiful rainbow that arches across the view from left to right. A Nevada bumblebee (if my iNaturalist choice is right) hangs onto the petals of a bright magenta bee balm flower against a green and brown background. A very fuzzy little bumblebee works on a wild blackberry blossom. The blossom is white, the leaves and unopened blossom behind it are green, and the background behind it is a darker shade of blurred out green. The little fuzzy buzzy has classic yellow and black lines, all very fuzzy, and transparent, slightly brownish wings. Its long black antennae are pointed forwards to the left. Kinda wanted to pet it, but resisted the urge.

A 5-centimeter long section of a stick that fell out of a tree during a thunderstorm this week. The upper right side has a big, juicy, green tuft of moss. Going down the left side, there is a patch of that black, button-like lichen, interspersed with pale green disc-shaped lichen with white rims, and a few more tiny sprigs of moss and bright yellow sunburst lichen. All very tiny.

There is one “big” bubble in the center left, and many other smaller bubbles randomly scattered through the scene at various depths in the class, so some of them are clear, while others blur away. This section of the glass is a pale sea blue, but on the right, darker cobalt blue “clouds” of glass flow into the scene.

Looking up at a stand of tall, old Douglas fir trees at a state park in western Oregon. Rough, furrowed, dark reddish-brown trunks go up to the pale blue sky and meet a chaos of evergreen needled boughs. Dry, tan grass with some greenery in the undergrowth. It’s dry and hot in here. You can smell the sweet fir sap and the ripening blackberries not far away, which we came to pick because we know the source and they’re out in the wild, so… safer? We’re gonna cook them anyway. Probably in a cobbler.

A reddish-purple Pacific rock crab crawls on the wet sand and bright green seaweed to get away from the photographer. That green seaweed is slick, by the way. The crab is about 12 centimeters across.
