Excited to announce I'll be in the Catskills in April as part of the Hartwick College's Visiting Writer Series. East coast, get your ears ready!
At the airport there was an announcement that said: "Attention please. The following item has been left at the terminal A checkpoint...." There was a suspenseful pause and then: "Guitar." Everyone around me smiled and went back to what they were doing, weirdly satisfied by this reveal.
Waingro takes a lot of the heat but at least 30 of the 34 total deaths in HEAT were because of this guy's terrible idea.
Bad movies you unironically love? I'll start with this one. And not just because one of the reviews said Hyde looked like "a pile of plastic hams" (but that helped).
If you robbed my safety deposit box this is all you would find.
What if all flights were like: "Sorry, only Shrek. Shrek or nothing. Shrek if you know what's good for you. Shrek or we turn back now. Oops, all Shrek!"
This is why Nolan was inspired to film a Trojan Horse, being amazed how many Cassavetes movies could fit into one box.
♪ skyrockets in flight... ♪ (What's a "skyrocket" though? Did they just need that extra syllable?)
A 35mm print of The Odyssey spinning like a record and supervised by a special projectionist flown in from France while I make DJ scratch noises in the dark... As Nolan intended.
Once you notice them you'll never unsee this. Almost every poster these days has THE EMBERS. Little upward drift of gold cinders on the bottom to indicate "action."
Signing Head Cleaners at The Mall of 'Murca. I signed that copy of Whalefall too, on behalf of the Squid Anti-Defamation League.
Mentally preparing for our epic yearly water gun fight.
If I owned a drive-in I would play this every weekend. The plot is paper thin but just look at this thing.
Making this movie without the Blue Balls Scene is like doing JFK without the Zapruder film.
When I saw this in the theater a friend of mine said afterwards: "You know what you get when you put Ice-T and Ice Cube together? A nice cool drink."
One of these books won the Pulitzer Prize. Another one was made into a movie. And one of them has a scene where someone in a phone booth pretends to take a shower.
Important Research! After a marathon viewing with a roomful of people, all of the "Creepshow" movies have been ranked. I welcome your corrections. (includes Creepshow, Creepshow 2, and kissing cousins Tales from the Darkside and Cat's Eye)
RIP Bonnie Tyler. Here are her tapes in my Jim Steinman section. Only the import version of Speed of Night has the laser beam through her for some reason.
When I see a listing for a used copy of one of my books and it says "signed" (and it's cheap) I like to buy it and see who I signed it for and imagine complicated reasons why they got rid of it. This was one of those books.
Checking out Carmel Cutlery and the owner was super cool and pulled out a box someone had donated. Guy had retired and said, "Grandkids weren't interested." Crazy because even though they're piled up they weren't the usual "TSA Confiscated" junk. I grabbed this titanium Kizer Feist from the stash.
