SPIN-FERT EU

@spinfert.bsky.social

SPIN-FERT is funded by the European Commission/Horizon Europe. It revolutionizes soil management in horticulture, transform agricultural by-products into high-quality fertilizers and peat-free substrates, promoting eco-friendly farming. www.spinfert.eu

🌱 From soil to seeds… listening to life breathe As part of our project activities, we are performing physiological tests to support the development of SeedResp, a colourimetric respiration assay that measures seed metabolic activity as an early indicator of phytotoxicity. @ CNR-IBBA & CNR-IRET

🌱 One treatment doesn’t fit all Every crop is different — and so is every cultivar. In SPIN-FERT, we investigate how seeds from different crop species, and even different varieties of tomato and lettuce, respond to the same biostimulant and fertilising treatments. #HorizonEurope #MissionSoil

🌱 Smart screening for safer biostimulants Before a biostimulant can benefit crops, it must first prove it's safe for the plant itself. In SPIN-FERT, we measure the respiration of germinating seeds to detect whether a treatment causes stress or toxicity at the earliest stage of plant development

🌱 ReCoir x SPIN-FERT: growing media's future depends on smarter use of materials already in horticulture. ReCoir brings practical industry knowledge on spent coir recovery, helping move sustainable substrates from concept to real-world scale. #SPINFERT #PeatFree

🌱 ReCoir x SPIN-FERT: coir is often used for one cycle then discarded. Together, we're investigating how spent coir can be assessed and repurposed into next-gen peat-free substrates — reducing waste and giving growers more resilient options. #SPINFERT #PeatFree
