HB 4177 takes a wrecking ball to Oregon public meetings law. That's why SPJ Oregon, which represents journalists across the state, is calling on Gov. @tinakotek.bsky.social to veto it and preserve the public's right to know. www.spjoregon.com/news/oregon-...

Oregon journalists call on Kotek to veto bill gutting public meetings law — SPJ Oregon

Gov. Tina Kotek must veto a bill that takes a wrecking ball to public meetings law, Oregon SPJ argues.

A bill is advancing in Salem that would blow a hole in the public's right to know, according to the top official who protects Oregonians’ public meetings law, Susan Myers. @SPJOregon, @OPB and others strongly oppose #orleg #orpol #foia

Bill could enable secret government talks, Oregon ethics chief warns

A section that would provide broad exceptions to the public meetings law 'gives me heartburn,' said Susan Myers, executive director of the Oregon Government Ethics Commission.

The narrow failure of Senate Bill 686, the bill that would require fair compensation for Big Tech’s AI "plagiarism machine," is bad news for Oregonians. We’re proud of our coalition’s hard work and progress toward achieving a solution.

This week, per @spjoregon.bsky.social‬, Oregon Business took home four 2024 Northwest Excellence in Journalism Awards, which reward outstanding work from among hundreds of entries submitted by journalists in five states: oregonbusiness.com/oregon-busin...

Oregon Business Wins Four SPJ Awards

Reporting on Portland arts spaces, Shaniko’s up-and-coming music scene and the Sports Bra take top honors in Northwest Excellence in Journalism contest.

A bunch of my pals won journalism awards for being very smart and excellent at journalism. Being a journalist is very hard as it is, being excellent at it has got to be like 5-10x harder at least. Great job being smart and excellent pals!

Our work at the #orleg paid off: Committee members rewrote this bill to get rid of a provision giving lawyers nearly six weeks to draft bad-faith demands and threaten lawsuits.

We've been hard at work at the #orleg, including by marshaling opposition last week to this proposal that could chill public service journalism by giving people and their lawyers more time to make frivolous demands to retract news articles. Read more from @opb.org: www.opb.org/article/2025...
