What puts sporting collections at risk, and why do they matter? Following National Sporting Heritage Day last year, we hosted a Collections at Risk webinar exploring the challenges facing sporting archives across the UK. The session brought sector professionals together to discuss:

Preserving sporting heritage takes more than good intentions. Collections can be at risk due to poor storage, environmental pressures, unclear documentation or limited capacity. Without structured care, records and artefacts can deteriorate or become inaccessible.

Milano Cortina 2026 reminds us that the Games don’t just live in stadiums and snow. They live online too. For 15 years, the International Internet Preservation Consortium has archived Olympic and Paralympic web content, preserving the digital story of the Games.
