Degree and interest in public health and epi. COVID conscious lifestyle. Mom of humans. Zebra who tries to run. Love cakes and bakes. Dogs are my favorite people. Live in the US. LGBTQ+ rights. Favorite escapism - RWRB. Shift the zeitgeist.

Um. My son just told the dog, “don’t smell the uranium.” Apparently he was given an old collection of rocks and pulled them out of the box and put them into a pile. Not sure about the silver lead ore, either, safety wise. 😬

An empty box with little squares delineated where rocks had been attached. They are labeled.

Her incision scab that she licked off healed for the second time. She reopened the healed skin overnight. Round 3 of the little pink suit. The clothes are giving her matted fur and I’m going to end up having to shave her armpits before this is through. This has been a dog shaming post.

A sweet golden retriever face. She is lying on her side on a dog bed and the top of a pink camo surgical recovery suit is visible.

One of my favorite quick side dishes at the moment is savoy cabbage sautéed with some gochujang, toasted sesame oil and soy sauce. Tonight it’s accompanying steamed corn, turkey and tofu hot dogs and fresh cucumber and peppers. Yummy.

When email goes down at work it feels like adult snow day. The kind where there’s a bit of excitement, but actually it doesn’t take any of your commitments away, just compresses the time you’ll have to get them done.

When my kiddo was little they used to take my shoes out of the closet, clomp around in them, and tell me that they wanted to borrow them once they were big enough. Now my kiddo is big, and I want to borrow their shoes, but my feet are too small.

Pair of converse from the Pride collection. Rainbow of stripes for the fabric and the bottom of sole. One shoe is lying down in the shoebox, the other is upright in the box.

Cake! A vanilla cake with a layer of lime curd filling, a layer of lemon curd filling, a layer of both. American buttercream frosting dams to keep things in place. Covered in a whipped cream and cream cheese frosting, decorated with some cream cheese frosting and some with lemon curd mixed in.

👇👇👇 It also made clear that the people essential for a functioning society are overwhelmingly low-paid workers, while hedge fund managers, corporate execs, & private equity goons could disappear from the face of the Earth & no one would notice—except for the more stable economy. That's dangerous.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Sock felt funny before a meeting so I took it off. Realized about 45 minutes in that as I was gesticulating to punctuate my statements, I was doing so with a sock in my hand. I’m pretty sure it was off camera, but it’s possible I might have left the wrong sort of impression on a new client.

Parenting 👎: I gave a scintillating dinnertime lecture on geographic variations in disease incidence. After a long pause, my 6 year old said, “I don’t want to do your kind of work. I want to be an arborist.” 😒 Parenting 👍: Both kids were excited when Heart Shaped Box came on the car radio today.

Is it perhaps a bit macabre that I opened the oven, listened to them, thought, “they’re still screaming too much,” and shut the oven on them for a couple more minutes until they were screaming just the right amount?

Managed to collect over 5 hours of sleep last night (🥳) and my brain tossed me a dream that I was driving my dad to a medical appointment, but we missed it on account of the two car accidents I got into along the way.
