Economist and historian of economics @ Duke. Unhealthy fascination with the Coase theorem.

Good stuff on offer here. Then again, I may be slightly biased. But if you are interested in Manne’s entrepreneurial trajectory in spreading the law and economics gospel, this paper provides a window into an important early effort.

Check out latest working paper addition- Henry Manne, Pareto in the Pines, and the Origins of the Law and Economics Movement by @dgindis.bsky.social and @spydermed.bsky.social hope.econ.duke.edu/publications...

If I disappear after my Econ 101 lecture on international economics in a couple of weeks, at least y’all will know what happened to me. (Upside: I avoid the three weeks of macro lectures.)

Looking forward to Cruz pointing out the wokeness of the Coase theorem, since it tells us that we can indulge distributional preferences with zero efficiency consequences.

One of the screams you hear is the collective one of about 10,000 applied economists who see an endless stream of natural experiments unfolding before them alongside the collapse of funding for the research on them.

This is sweet. Looking forward to seeing the research produced utilizing it and subsequent national databases. The possibilities are immense!

With @thomasdelcey.bsky.social we are thrilled to release the first version of the French economics PhD database 🎉 tdelcey.github.io/becoming_eco... Using Sudoc and theses.fr data, we have collected metadata on most PhD defended in France in economics since 1900! #rstats #opendata #EconSky

We are pleased to announce the release of the French PhD Thesis Database in Economics! This database offers extensive information on the majority of doctoral theses defended in France in the field of economics since 1900.

The database is available in .csv format and can be downloaded from its Zenodo Repository. Comprehensive documentation can be accessed here.

The French database is implemented as a relational database, integrating multiple interconnected data frames.

If we were a little farther along in the semester, a “Pick an Executive Order and subject it to demand-supply analysis” would make for an interesting assignment for the coming weekend for my 101 students.

Got to spend 2 hrs at Duke women’s hoops game today listening to dude behind me mansplaining the whole game and college hoops generally to his gf/partner. Externalities are everywhere. (And no, my WTP was clearly nowhere near high enough to bribe this happy mansplainer into silence.)
