Car-free streets are not synonymous with culturally rich streets. Removing cars creates possibility, but it does not automatically create a vibrant place. A truly vibrant public space is not only defined by what is absent; it is defined by what is present—who and what is able to flourish there.

Great piece by Cllr Matlow that lays out the impossibility of 10 million passengers flying through Billy Bishop without a huge expansion of the airport footprint. Also rightly says huge public costs - both public funds & degrading the public waterfront - would not be offset by any public benefit.
Please read my latest in today’s Toronto Star about why we must prepare for what comes next for Billy Bishop Airport and our city’s waterfront. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

Arbitrary city boundaries at work. Canadian cities are more likely to be amalgamated with their suburbs than US ones. We don’t actually have half the number of big cities as the US in any meaningful sense. Also Australia seems to be counting metro areas (GCCSAs), not cities/municipalities (LGAs).
How Many Cities Over 1 Million People Does Each Country Have? Sort of crazy that Canada and Australia have more than the UK. Or that Russia has more than the US. Full list: brilliantmaps.com/cities-ov...
