HOLY COW I can’t believe it! Never thought I’d see the day!! The disabled community has been trying to get speed bumps removed as traffic calming measures in our city for over 10yrs now, I can’t believe it’s finally happened. Huge thank you to counsellors Caton and Billings for pushing for this!! 🥳

Amendment passes 8-4 (Gibson, Richardson, Goller, and Goller against).

From her time on the AAC, Root says there was a passionate discussion on speed cushions, and the City was supposed to be dedicated to only using them as a last resort, but it was always the first. And they came back every single time.

Root notes that she is one of the people that's affected going over speed cushions and avoiding them is not easy. Uber drivers and cabs can't always follow alternate directions, and when they do, it can increase costs. Also, disabled people have to know where all the speed cushions are. Not fair.

Next, Lorelei Root, who used to be the chair of the AAC, but was one of the members who walked out (so to speak) in 2024. She's also asking for different options when it comes to speed cushions, although not all disabled people are affected by them.

So I’m really bad at asking for help, but I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some help right now. My fridge died, and it took my medication along to the underworld with it. I need some help raising the money to replace it. 🫶🏻 gofund.me/cfda9397

Last night I went downtown to honour the lives we’ve lost to drug poisonings and the people who’ve been abandoned by yesterday’s closure of the Consumption and Treatment Services site. Sincerest Thanks to the staff who kept this site running, preventing countless drug poisoning deaths & overdoses. ❤️‍🩹
