I'd call the odds about 50/50 that Trump has murdered America—50/50 that he's the literal "but for" cause of the end of the American experiment. And the fact that it's still only perhaps 25% of Americans who understand the scope of his crime is another sign of how doomed we are.
But here's the part most will miss: the Polycrisis. Trump has doomed America in part because he's put us in the position of having to spend decades in recovery at a time when new enveloping crises are all going to hit at once: climate, energy, autocracy, AI.... the list goes on.
But let's be clear on the fact that any American told that anything they rely on must change will fight tooth and nail to stop it. The courts will fight any reform. Corporate media will fight any reform. Go to academia and say poststructuralism is passé and it'll be years of war.
Some fixes may be easy(ish). Making Election Day a national holiday. Public financing of elections. Understanding that white-collar crime—like Bribery and all political corruption—is exponentially more dangerous than even 1-on-1 violent crime, as it has immeasurably more victims.
The rest of your natural life—and then some. That's how long we'll be cleaning up the mess of Trump and MAGAism. The nation as it was before is lost. It won't return. What we seek to save now isn't what used to be. It'll be something else altogether. It'll be what we make it.

Agreed the best thing that we can possibly do is to encourage everybody we know to vote. I live in Santa Barbara in the last June lecture only 29% of our population voted. I am in the process of writing an op ed in our local paper
