This is also an underappreciated reason we live in a gerontocracy. No company is giving you leave to campaign and with term limits in many states, you best case have a job for around a decade. Meanwhile, old people are bored and have infinite time, plus a lot of money usually!

I think voters don't realize being a candidate is unpaid, and even if you win, the pay isn't great for the stress level and the "reward" is being a regular speaker at Elks Lodge & the Farm Bureau.

The best thing about Vote Blue No Matter Who is that it unloads a lot of cognitive burden. I wanted Tom Steyer to be in the Governor's race, but he's not so I'm gonna vote for Becerra. I don't follow his campaign at all: I'm voting for him because he's not a Republican.

The consumer experience is indescribably better now than it ever was. You can complain about our politics, but it's never been better to be a stuff buyer.

I agree with Sam, but there's also a reason why this sort of gotcha works on Democratic candidates and not state Sen. Cletus who wakes up and tweets the 14 Words. The reason is that Democrats will show contrition, which makes it fun for reporters and invites follow up, while Republicans won't.
