In the 1st invited talk at #IWSM2026 Nils L. Hjort asks how we can count the uncounted. Using parametric inference for the unobservable null cell in a multinomial Venn-diagram setup, he turns a problem of historical record-keeping into a rigorous estimation problem.
🎊The 40th International Workshop on Statistical Modelling (IWSM 2026) is officially underway in Oslo! What a milestone - four decades of bringing together the statistical modelling community. 🎊 The 1st session featured 4 contributed talks on transformation models and distributional regression:
☀️Welcome to Oslo! ☀️ To set the mood for #IWSM2026, we spent a lovely summer evening at our informal gathering at Mastermind Bar. What a nice evening with familiar and new faces that build excitement for the upcoming days of scientific talks, insightful posters and lots of networking!
Before the official start of #IWSM2026, Ornulf Borgan and Clara Berttinelli Salucc gave a short course on survival and time-to-event analysis. The course gave a theoretical overview of the most important concepts in the field, and included hands-on tutorials. A great warm up to the main conference!
Widening our horizons at the Cliffs of Moher was a refreshing change of environment yesterday afternoon! 🐑🍀 Now, heads are cleared again for insightful discussions at #IWSM2025!
Ever listened to a beautiful song about leaving the land of convexity? 🎶🎵 We had the pleasure to enjoy Cynthia Rudin's song right after an already inspiring talk about ✨ amazing things that come from having many good models ✨ What an extraordinary invited session at #IWSM2025!
The first day of #IWSM2025 started with a warm welcome from our chair Kevin Burke and Norma Bargary! 🫂 We are looking forward to four contributed sessions and our invited speaker Sonja Greven talking about additive density regression!
#IWSM2025 has finally started!🙌🥳 It has kicked off with an insightful short course on physics-informed statistical learning given by Laura Sangalli, Alessandro Palummo and Michele Cavazzutti. Brains were cooled off by a nice surprise during the breaks 🍨 We're excited for the upcoming week! 🍀
