The reason I’ve finally been posting my Addison writing is to build up my courage for this big horror story I’ve been working on for over a year now. 14 chapters. Hundreds of hours of work. Over a month just curating the playlist that I made for it lol. Poured my whole heart and soul into this one.

And then Spamton froze, his blood turning both cold and burning hot at once. Swatch’s words echoed around in his head, ringing against his eardrums.

Spamton leapt to his feet, launching the bottle he was holding as hard as he could at the front door. It shattered violently, spraying glass and alcohol all over the room. On the other side Swatch jumped back, shocked by the sudden explosion of noise, an arm instinctively raising to protect himself.

Spamton takes a ride around Cyber City in a sleek, modern sports car, the interior upholstery entirely fresh leather. Hanging from the rear view mirror is a pair of fuzzy dice representing red and green Pippins, and a Tenna bobble figure sits on the dashboard. It rains heavily and the streets are awash in myriad colors from the surrounding storefronts and advertising billboards. Spamton's face is visible in the rear view mirror and, behind him, the face of a man in shadow goes unnoticed. Or, perhaps there is no need to acknowledge him?

A door stands within the center of the image, cast entirely in saturated red. Two plaques adorn this door: a star, and a nameplate beneath it that says "SPAMTON". The door is open, casting light into the room where Spamton sits on the floor, back to the wall, eyes transfixed in terror at a barely visible hand emerging from the darkness where the light does not pierce. A smear of black blood trails upward to the site of the Thorn Ring on his left hand. Rose petals litter the carpet beside him alongside a phone, hanging off of the hook. On the wall is a 1997 edition calendar branded by Big Shot Autos, turned to the month of December.

Blue continued to press his fists against his eyes, harder and harder, well after it had started to hurt. He didn’t care if it hurt. He wanted it to hurt. He needed it to hurt. Maybe if it hurt enough, maybe if he pressed hard enough, he could reach all the way inside and into his brain and expel all of those awful visions. Maybe if he pushed deep enough, he could break through his own skull and break whatever chains were keeping the real him locked up in there. Imprisoned in his own mind, a helpless passenger in his own body, forced to watch himself making all of these stupid horrible mistakes and driving everyone else away but completely unable to stop it—

A pair of arms wrapped around him and Blue flinched violently from the unexpected contact. He still did not uncover his eyes…but even when he jumped, Pink’s grip did not loosen and he did not pull away.

“I love you.”

Blue sucked in a harsh gasp, every muscle in his body tensing at once. It felt like his heart stopped beating, and then it plunged straight down to his stomach and left him feeling dizzy and sick.

Pink was not deterred. “I love you, Blue.”

Blue’s shoulders started to shake. His lips trembled. He could feel Pink’s cheek nuzzling gently against his hair. “I love you, Blue. You know that…right?”

“…stop it…” Tears were burning against the backs of his eyes, but the rest of him felt so cold…Pink hugged him even tighter, their body soft and warm against his own as it began to shiver uncontrollably. “Stop it…”

“I love you.” Blue finally moved one of his hands away from his face to grab ahold of Pink’s arm instead, his nails digging into their skin through the thin veil of fabric.

“Stop it,” Blue tried to growl, but it came out much more like a whimper. And despite his verbal demand, Blue was clinging to Pink’s arm like his very life depended on not letting go. “Stop it…s-stop saying that…”

“No.” Defiance, but without any anger this time. “I won’t. I love you.” Pink‘s voice became slightly muffled when Blue could feel him turn his head until his entire face was buried in his hair.

Tears started to roll down his cheeks. A sob broke inside of his chest and tore itself from his throat before Blue could swallow it. “Stop…stop it…s-stop…saying that—”

“I love you.”

“STOP it!”

“I love you so much, Blue.”

He clawed at Pink’s arm, sobbing, but despite his words Blue made no genuine attempt to pull away. “Stop it…stop it…stop it…Pink, p-please, stop—”

And when Blue weakly sunk down onto his knees Pink followed him, never once breaking his embrace. He knelt with him there on the cold floor, cradling him to his chest and continuing to murmur his affection. And when Blue started crying too loud for it to be heard anymore, Pink kissed the top of his head and lowered his own so that his lips were right next to Blue’s ear.

“I love you, Blue. I’m not going anywhere—“ The particularly harsh sob that those words incited made him pause, but only for a moment before he continued. “…I’m not going anywhere, Blue. I promise.”

Blue started to walk away. Behind him, he could hear Pink scoff and mutter something under their breath. It was almost too quiet to hear…

Almost.

Blue froze, then slowly turned his head to glare back over his shoulder. “…what did you just say?”

“Nothing.”

Blue turned around, facing him properly. Though his voice remained steady, there was an iciness seething beneath each word. “No. What did you just say to me?”

Pink stiffened. Blue could see the tension gripping his jaw, could recognize from the way his lips were quivering that he was clenching and gritting his teeth right behind them. They stared each other down for a few long, awful moments, before Pink finally broke the mutual gridlock as he stomped one of his feet and stepped forward.

“I *said*—“ Blue’s own anger may have been icy, but Pink’s was hot and livid and crackling like fire as it poured forth. “—that I’m SICK of you acting like you don’t care about what happened! Like you don’t care about ANYTHING anymore!”

“What?!” Defensive instincts immediately flared up. Blue’s muscles all tightened, bracing himself both inside and out. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

Pink huffed and rolled their eyes in exasperation. “Oh *shut up*, you KNOW what I mean!” Angry as he was, Blue couldn’t help the way those words made him flinch. Pink never told him to shut up. Pink never spoke to him that way… “You’ve been acting like this for YEARS, Blue! Ever since Spam left! You go around like everything is fine, and like the rest of us are just IDIOTS for ever acting like it’s not! You act like you don’t give a shit about anything that happened! You act like nothing ever happened at all!”

Something dark started to fester and bloom behind his eyes. Blue could feel it as it began to creep its way through his veins. “We *all* agreed not to talk about him, Pink.” His voice was firm and low.

And in response, Pink raised his voice even more. “Of course we did! But you know damn fucking well that we all still do! We have to sometimes! Because we all still feel shit about it! Because we all still feel LIKE shit about it! Because we all still fucking CARE about it! About HIM!” And then Pink lowered his head, glaring at Blue through the curtain of his bangs. His eyes were burning. “Except for *you*.”

Blue’s hands clenched into fists at his sides. They shouldn’t be talking about this. They shouldn’t be talking like this. This was dangerous. And yet, Pink continued. “You *never* talk about it. And you never let *us* talk about it, either. You act like you’re so high and mighty about all of this — like you’re so above it, and we’re all beneath you for being upset. And I’m fucking SICK of it, Blue! I don’t know when the hell you got this way, when the hell you got so COLD—“

Cold. Blue went stiff, and he felt all of the air leaving his lungs at once. He thought he could see it floating up and away from his mouth, the way it would have if it were freezing…Blue’s vision suddenly blurred, Pink falling out of focus as the room around them spun and swam and changed. Blue frowned, blinking hard, then screwing his eyes shut entirely when it did nothing to stop the nauseating dizziness. He raised a hand, cradling one of his temples as it began to ache and throb and Pink’s voice seemed to move further and further away…

Pink’s voice abruptly stopped and Blue opened his eyes again, confused by the silence. And the Pink who had been standing before him was now a frozen corpse, his bright and lively eyes now only black and hollow as his jaw hung lifelessly from his face. Like he had opened his mouth to scream right before some terrible force had torn his life from his body. And then they had frozen him there, capturing that horrible moment forever. Preserving for all eternity that final expression of hopeless terror and anguish when Pink had been killed. Wanting to force Blue to see it again and again and again. Wanting him to remember that in his last seconds alive, Pink had been terrified and screaming and crying for help and so, so, so cold—

Blue blinked again. The corpse was gone. His ears were ringing. Pink was back, and still in the middle of his rant that was slowly becoming audible again as the ringing began to fade. Blue remained locked in place, never moving a single inch…but something in his expression must have finally betrayed him, because he could see Pink as he started to hesitate and falter despite the sincerity of rage that had been guiding him.

“…—and haven’t you noticed that—haven’t you noticed that…that…” Pink frowned, voice trailing off. Blue still hadn’t breathed. His mind may not have known that he was holding his breath, but his body certainly did, and his heartbeat was getting hard and fast and throbbing against his ribs. “…Blue?

Blue, are you even listening…?”
