when people say you can't promote things on mastodon i gotta laugh. it's harder to build an audience, but it's way more engaged. i have almost 12k followers there, but my posts regularly outperform my 13k here also, mastodon's support *specifically* was crucial to kitsune tails' launch week success

"Mastodon sucks." Every last bit of Fedi is built by members of your community trying to provide a space to people for free, often at great expense to themselves. This isn't some social network we just rolled up and started using, we built it. I wish more people understood that before they slam it.
In case people are wondering what I think the "solution" is, I would say that people need to be willing to curate their own experience with social media. Mastodon has a high engagement rate if you create that space for yourself. But we're terrified of our posts not reaching Everyone On The Internet.
