I came out of my hole because it was a really interesting thing to watch and pertained to a lot of personal interests (even outside Vocaloid), but I am still in health recovery so I am going to have to mute the relevant threads' notifications soon. I did the second thread because I felt --

Yesterday's thread about KAITO took off, but now that I'm being harassed by trolls, I'm realizing just how badly they contaminated public perception of the issue, so I'm going to take responsibility and give a more thorough look at what did and didn't happen. (Also a long thread)

Since the thread blew up (well, I suppose I did ask for this), just to make this clear! I'm a Korean-American who has been watching industry issues even outside my Vocaloid hobbies!! I studied linguistics and bridging cultural gaps (in both directions) is my hobby! That's all!!

I'm going to make a thread about what happened with the KAITO naming controversy because I don't think Westerners on my timeline realize it, but it actually had massive implications for both the status of Vocaloid as a whole and idol J-Pop's future

MEIKOとKAITO、他人にはMEIKO親衛隊はだいたい男で青廃は女というイメージがあると思うけど、せめてクリエイターや同人の側では実際は意外に違う。「例外ある」じゃなくて割と曖昧な感じ。

Due to all of the incidents that happened with SeeU and Uni over the years, I think there's been this feeling that Korean commercial vocalsynth has been cursed somehow, but VOX Factory has been making a lot of strides this year so the announcement really is a happy combo 🙏

For those who have ever asked "I can't tell the difference between vocalsynths and real singers anymore," here's a tip: Even the highest-fidelity vocalsynths struggle with clear pronunciation on particularly high or low notes. I personally think it's the easiest telltale sign.

Because I'm sick and tired of people assuming Vocaloid/CeVIO/SynthV "AI" is generative AI just because it has the word "AI" in it: a quick and easy explanation on what vocalsynth "AI" is and why you need to stop freaking out.

Hey, uh, just so people know: the type of "AI" primarily used in the context of vocalsynth is not generative. It's procedural. It's to induce randomness in ways like "making water ripples realistic" is done in games. You still have to do everything else by hand. Painstakingly.
