SarahJSloat@sjane.bsky.social · 2w agoHappy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."
Tuned into "A View to a Kill" at the absolute highlight of the film. The theme song.

The lack of a distinct second person plural in English has never bothered me, as one can always use the third person with the impersonal pronoun to gets ones point across.

Oddly, the first example I jumped to was a good book. Just the film was great: LA Confidential

Red and green together are by far the stupidest colours to use for any serious application, and the fact we do so is largely because it is very difficult to make blue with a yellow flamed parrafin lamp (a blue filter just makes a green light).

The Canadian are on the cusp of being as inconsistent as us Brits. We need to increase our lead. I suggest that UK needs to start giving the weather temperature in Gas Mark, and cook in degrees DeLisle. If that doesn't work, we'll have to start selling petrol in quarts.

I was once asked to come up with a colour to represent diversity. Perfectly normal thing in my line of work, except I was the only straight white male in my section. And I am colour blind.

Still playing First Light. Honestly, it is growing on me. It is a bit weird - from a gameplay standpoint it is clearly better when it is being more on the Hitman side of "Hitman meets Bond". I quite like the villain's motivation - it makes sense but is also somehow funny.
Playing the 007 First Light (because I cannot afford the Omega I want to really indulge in my middle aged Bond fantasies). So far pretty good, but there are so many annoying little nit picks in some of the dialogue and story elements.
Currently wearing two neckerchief to beat the heat - one around my neck and one around the noggin. I look like some sort of awful clothing experiment that occured when someone put Quentin Crisp and Tupac Shakur in the Large Sartorial Collider.
Oh, God, Youtube has looped back round to showing me watch youtubers again. This means I once again I now have several tabs open for high end watch companies selling watches I cannot quite afford nor justify the need for. And also a tab open with a list of nearby Post Offices with poor security.
It looks like my plan for HS2 (steam haulage) might also help resolve the CalMac problem.

Once again, I am saying: complete HS2. Make it steam hauled. I promise there is logic to it. Admittedly, some of it is "Adam West's Batman solving a puzzle left by the Riddler" logic. But it makes more sense than the current plan.

I have to admit, this is pretty cool; these islands are bloody blustery, and Tristan is very easy to miss (and they seemed to have managed to pinpoint the landing somewhere sensible - not, say, on top of Queen Mary's Peak or something)
