Burnham is giving the impression (with, when you read the small print, pretty much no actual commitment) that he is going to make significant progressive policy changes re Palestine, etc. because he feels under pressure from progressives to do so. Keep the pressure up. Do not back off.

Teachers of critical thinking & media studies may want to bookmark this 'apology' because, behind the veneer of decency & compassion, it's a masterclass in deceit & manipulation. Also cos in 2 years those Guardian readers who fell for it because they wanted it to be true will finally come around.

This point needs to be made over and again: The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.
