Bond villain Larry Ellison is about to take over control of Warner Bros (including CNN). This is not great. The same oligarch already controls Paramount (CBS etc..), TikTok, Oracle and an increasingly sprawling number of other entities. www.freepress.net/news/paramou...

ah there's a word for this. Thanks @nbedera.bsky.social. I find this 'symbolic compliance' is almost always the fist step to a campaign win. Hopefully it goes beyond that here.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
