Some random photos of anthuriums and the rainforest behind the guest house. The fourth photo is of the rock steps up the hill which the guest house is perched going up from the forest floor.
These photos were taken near 2 am. In the second photo you can see the lanai rail and how lit up the meadow is under the full moon. Some stars are faintly visible even with the light of the moon and the eruption.
The view from the lanai as the eruption continues and changes under the bright light of a full moon at 1 am. You can hear the dull roar of the eruption in the background from the lanai.
The Japanese plums are ripening. In the background of the second photo you can see the forest of Japanese Red Cedars (Cryptomeria japonica) that is behind our property in the background. The first photo shows some hydrangeas in bloom in the background.

Rhapis humilis (taller ones)+Rhapis excelsa growing at the edge of the forest. What's interesting is how different some plants look when grown at the cooler higher elevations in the tropics than the hotter tropical lowlands. These have a nice sheen to the fronds that you don't see in the lowlands.
And yet Texans continue to relentlessly vote for these people and the oppressor Estein class. What does it take?

So here are three species of Pinanga palms that are growing here. The first two photos show Pinanga coronata growing in the rainforest. The third photo shows a Pinanga kuhlii and the fourth photo shows on unknown species of Pinanga that is referred to as Pinanga sp. 'purple crownshaft'

Well the Magnolia grandiflora is blooming for the first time with a flower bud developing behind and above the opening flower.
Two days after the flame thrower palms started opening the newest spear this is what it looks like. The colors are getting more vivid. The 1st photo is looking down on it from the lanai. The 2nd is the ground level view+the third is the frond w/sun shinning through+the 4th is w/sun on it.
The new frond of the flame thrower palm continues to open. The color will intensify as it opens.
So the Flame Thrower Palm is beginning to open a new spear today. It will take several days to a week to completely open. You can already see a hint of the dark burgundy color it will have when it opens. The burgundy normally is edged in green. Stay tuned.
Some more random rainforest views after a brief set of rain showers. It is a rainforest after all so afternoon showers carried across the Pacific on the Trade Winds are a common event.
The blue Brazilian Irises are in bloom yet again.

Looking down the driveway along the rainforest towards the house.
The first photo shows Kentia palms in the forest with Pinanga coronata palms further back into the forest (you have to look for them). The second photo shows a grouping of Rhapis palms in the forest consisting of R. humilis in the background and R. excelsa in the foreground.
The screening of the catchment water tanks from the driveway. I am using Areca Palms and Cigar bushes (with the red orange flowers) in between the Areca Palms and the driveway. The third photo shows the two additional Cigar bushes planted in front of the Arecas to add to the screening.
So the lighting today was perfect to show what the volcanic rock terrace garden looks like on a sunny day with dappled shade changing as the day progresses. This garden includes large drifts of New Guinea Impatiens which live for many years in this cool/mild/breezy highland climate in the tropics.
