Nine months after I published Encountering Pope Leo XIV: Baptist Reflections on the Beginning of a Pontificate, I am still learning new and delightful things about the first pope born in the USA.
I'm looking forward to serving as guest preacher at First Baptist Church of Elon, NC this Tenth Sunday after Pentecost: “Taking, Blessing, Breaking, Giving” (Isaiah 55:1-5; Matthew 14:13-21).
I was glad to receive in today’s mail this new book on Baptists and synodality edited by Paul Fiddes, Andy Goodliff, and Ruth Moriarty—and honored to have been invited to endorse it.

This is my 10th book, & it never fails--no matter how meticulously & how many times I proof the typeset pages, there will always be some typos caught only after the book is published. 😠 But hopefully the next sentence makes clear what I meant, even if it didn't make it from my brain to the keyboard!

This applies to the dust-up over Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator (and Rev. Dr.) @warnock.senate.gov, and their respective remarks about Matthew 25. One take on that text builds up that double love; one does not. And historical-critical appeals in and of themselves do not adjudicate the dust-up.
