I'm fully in favour of maxing North Sea drilling for gas and oil, while doing everying we can to stop selling petrol/diesel cars, and accelerate renewables for power. This is one way we can afford to transition to lower carbon faster.

Starmer's problem is that he's been at war with his MPs without a purpose. Destroying careers driving through your ideological agenda is fine, letting them run into the ground for nothing gets what it deserves.

These are basically your candidates: Yvette Cooper Liz Kendall David Lammy Shabana Mahmood Ed Miliband Lisa Nandy Bridget Phillipson Lucy Powell Rachel Reeves Wes Streeting Not a weak non-MP or a scandal hit ex deputy.

On reflection John Major was the greatest politician of his generation. Against all odds he scored a 4th term with the slimmest of majorities (21!). Navigated never ending treachery from the eurosceptic bastards - "put up or shut up", and kept power even while behind in the polls 5/6.5 years. Wow!

It does rather stand as a judgement on the 400 MPs that none are thought good enough to be PM. What's wrong with them?

There's something a little off about some MP resigning to parachute the mayor of Manchester into Parliament so he can try to become prime minister instead of one of the 400 other Labour MPs. It just feels a bit pathetic.
