Stop the A38 Expansion
@stopa38expansion.bsky.social
We're a group of concerned local residents who have been taking our government to court since 2021 to stop the A38 Derby junctions road scheme.
It's not over yet! Government may decide to axe the A38 scheme in favour of military spending but until the blade has officially fallen, the fight goes on. 🙏🏼 If you haven't yet sent a letter to decision-makers demanding for its cancellation please do so here: actionnetwork.org/letters/a38-...
Fixed it for you, Mayor Ward. A new study reports that there were 2,700 excess deaths due to extreme heat across May and June with scientists estimating that the climate crisis added between 3-4°C to maximum temperatures.
The Department for Transport has confirmed the A38 Derby Junctions scheme faces potential cancellation, as the Government consults on reallocating roads funding toward national defence. 🧵
The UK faces a growing climate and nature emergency, yet most people have never been fully briefed on what it means for our lives and future. A new film from the National Emergency Briefing explains the risks and the credible, positive responses available. 📍Derby QUAD
The UK is facing another dangerous heatwave, yet the Government is still pushing ahead with the climate-wrecking A38 expansion. More emissions. More traffic. 11.8 hectares of mature trees lost. This is what climate failure looks like.
🚦The A38 expansion is being sold as a solution to congestion but during the scheme's planning examination, Derby City Council identified significant increases in traffic on local roads as a direct consequence of the scheme.
Have you sent letters yet? The case for expansion is weak and now is the time to apply collective pressure! It takes less than 2 minutes and could make all the difference 🙏🏼 actionnetwork.org/letters/a38-...
The A38 scheme's economic case is collapsing. Now is the time to apply pressure! It takes just 2 minutes to send a pre-written email to tell decision makers to use their common sense. The A38 scheme is a disaster waiting to happen. Cancel it NOW! l1nq.com/f1ddshm
🚚🚛 A new report from the Union of Concerned Scientists warns that powerful highway, trucking, oil and roadbuilding lobby groups have spent decades pushing road expansion in the US while public transport was neglected.
We drove - nay, crawled - past these t'other day, and my daughter asked why they were closed up. So I explained, it's to enable more road building instead of investment in public transport and city housing. We're leaving a terrible legacy
🏚 The biggest reason the expanded A38 will eventually fill up is simple: it is being used to enable thousands of new car dependent homes in the wrong places.
🏚 The biggest reason the expanded A38 will eventually fill up is simple: it is being used to enable thousands of new car dependent homes in the wrong places.
🚧 The A38 expansion reflects the same failed transport logic that reshaped much of the US into a deeply car dependent society.
🚧 The A38 scheme is being sold as a fix for congestion, growth and safety but National Highways’ own evidence does not support it.
🚨 Is this the future for the A38? Aerial images of the A47 works in Norfolk show the scale of destruction: trees and habitats lost, rising emissions, and years of disruption for residents.
It’s not the first time the Derby Telegraph has misrepresented information or made incorrect claims about the A38 Expansion. 🚩 We’re setting the record straight on the latest "announcement." ⬇️ 1/5
"The A38 is not a victim of vexatious legal challenges. It is a project repeatedly exposed for weak appraisal, unlawful approval and economic obsolescence, problems of the Government’s own making both under Conservatives and Labour."
