Author of A to Z of the "so bad, they're good", the bad and the ugly horror films. Artwork by Jason Miller. https://blackpetal82.wixsite.com/the-poet
I had forgotten how powerful that opening scene is. George C. Scott gives a solid performance; the interior is suitably creepy; and the cinematography is minimalistic but works so well. The pacing is a little off, and while it is not "scary", it still gets under your skin. #HorrorMovies
One week into my time off, with 11 days left to go. I originally took this break to catch up with a friend, but things haven't worked out yet, and honestly, the idle time has just felt lonely and listless. Trying to reset, at least I have some solid plans lined up for next week to look forward to.
Well, at least I have content for my next book. The acting is not good, the middle part drags, and it gets repetitive. There are much better "be careful what you wish for" films. #HorrorMovies #IndieThriller #IndieFilm
Is it a bit vain to display your own books on floating shelves like a mini shrine? Maybe. But when the cover artwork turns out this cool, hiding them on a shelf spine-out feels like a crime. Honouring the grind (and the awesome artwork by Jason Miller) one shelf at a time. #AuthorLife
This was awful and so pretentious that it made it hard to watch. The fact that I was begging for a jump scare gives you an idea of how dull this film was. #HorrorMovies #HorrorAnthology #IndieHorror #HorrorCommunity #ApocalypseHorror
Book 37 - #NightChills by #DeanKoontz. This was a well-paced book; however, one character's perversion became uncomfortable to read. #BlueSkyBooks #HorrorBooks #VintagePaperbacks #PaperbackCollector #Horrorcommunity #BookCollector #BookLover #RetroBooks #Thrillers #BlueSkyHorror #HorrorFiction
This film was boring, but it relies more on atmosphere than scares. The acting was good, and the parts with Dee Wallace were especially strong. #HorrorMovies #90sNostalgia
This film had an intriguing premise, and they squandered it. The writing is scattered, leaving it feeling unfocused. #HorrorMovies #SupernaturalHorror #FolkHorror #CursedObject #HorrorCommunity #HorrorFan #TeenHorror #CurseFilm #HighSchoolHorror #SupernaturalThriller #DarkFantasy #IndieHorror
This is a poorly directed mess with a confusing plot. It is also boring, and the mystery isn't really solved. #HorrorMovies #Ghosts #AustralianHorror
One of those days where depression wins the round. Cried more times than I can count today over things I know my brain is exaggerating. Brains are exhausting sometimes. Sending love to anyone else fighting their own head today.
This is a film with bad acting, a weak script and long, boring scenes. The ridiculous ending gives me a little joy, but the film has no scares. It ultimately felt like a short stretched to a full-length film. #HorrorMovies #SupernaturalHorror #GhostFilm
Book 36 - The 1997 version of #DemonSeed by #DeanKoontz. Apart from the odd moments of Koontz's style, this is a pretty terrible book. I didn't realise this was an updated version, so I wonder how much "worse" that must be if Koontz felt the need to redo it. #BlueSkyBooks #HorrorCommunity
If you love Lake Mungo-style slow burns and don't mind a film that raises more questions than it answers, this one sits right in that comfortable "Reasonable Scares, Moderate Thrills" zone. Read the full breakdown on Substack: open.substack.com/pub/beverley... #Horror #HorrorMovies

Even with a padded script, this is still an interesting premise, spoiled by a disappointing ending. Richard Boone's performance is superb, and I love the fact that his character never uses his newfound knowledge for evil. #HorrorMovies #SuspenseThriller
#TodSlaughter is always a joy to watch, with moments of creepiness. The monster plays second fiddle to Slaughter, but the film is dripping with thick fog. #HorrorMovies #BritishHorror #CrimeThriller #HorrorCinema #ClassicHorror #VintageHorror #1930sCinema #GothicHorror
I have officially reached the stage in my life where I have decided I need a dressmaker’s mannequin thingy. It will just stand in the corner looking dramatic and holding my jackets. #ImpulseBuy

Recent watches! B-movie madness, mushroom monsters, and psychological dread. A pretty mid-tier run, but Matango takes the crown this round. #LastFourWatched
#BadFilmNight recap: Orange Sesame chicken: 10/10 Peanut butter mousse: 0/10 (forgot my friend hates peanut butter.) Matango: Masterclass in atmospheric creepiness Girls Nite Out: Perfectly average 80s slasher Wins all around (except for dessert). #HomeCooking #FilmNight #CultCinema
@adbpod.bsky.social I have finally got around to listening, and I am loving it. It is sharp, funny and takes film commentary out of snob territory and right into cinematic chaos. Already halfway through your back catalogue. May I suggest Kevin Smith's Tusk / Wong Kar-wai's In The Mood For Love?
Getting a little sick of the grief metaphor in horror, but this is done better than most. The middle dragged a lot, but the opening and ending were enjoyable, although the twist is obvious to a seasoned horror fan. The cast was exceptional, and the location is eerily beautiful. #HorrorMovies
Today would’ve been 13 years if my ex hadn’t ghosted a whole relationship 10 months ago. Remembering it hit a little, but ordering a ridiculous amount of chicken wings, tenders, and tater tots hit way harder. Progress looks like extra dipping sauce. #MovingOn #BreakupStories
A bland, forgettable film, and all the shaky cam made me nauseous. The drama was so slow and tedious, with the characters making stupid decisions. Also, they show the date on a newspaper as 1998, but everything else suggests it takes place now. All the adults are abusive, horrible and misogynistic.
Book 35 - Dark Rivers of the Heart by #DeanKoontz. Maybe because I am slowly making my way through the Koontz books that I own, I feel like I have read this plot before. #BookSky
Book 34 - Slugs by #ShaunHutson. Come on, do I ever need to say that I love this book? It is 80s-style trash with sleazy sex and gross-out deaths. And yes, I have seen the film adaptation. #HorrorBooks #HorrorCommunity
This was entertaining enough, but the characters are so unlikeable that you don't really care about their fate. #HorrorMovies #Thriller #LowBudgetHorror #PsychologicalThriller #ThrillerFilm #BritishHorror
As a drama, it is fine, but it is not really a #HorrorFilm. It is slow, long and boring, with no violence, and the only death is not shown on screen. And in case you had not worked out the symbolism, the final few minutes strip it away to reveal the truth. #LowBudgetHorror #Werewolf
