Lancashire birding; Gulls, waders and wildfowl; Finding my own; Hesketh Out Marsh #HOM, Banks Marsh & #Marshside #gulling #goosing #lancsbirding
Earlier - Male Blue-headed Wagtail, min 3 Quail (2 west, 1 east), 3 Spot Red, 15 Spoonbill, Whimbrel, 2 Common Sand, 1s type Arctic Tern, 6 Greenshank, Marsh Harrier, 30 Dunlin, 2 Barn Owl best of #HOM. A nice little morning session, the clegs the only negative! #UKbirding
Nice to get this Temminck’s with my mum and dad at #Marshside this afternoon - a lovely little bird despite the crap pics #UKbirding
2 singing Wood Warbler, 2 Crossbill flyover, Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts, Woodcock, Ospreys, Cuckoo, Garden Warbler, Tree Pipits, Marsh Tits, Redpolls, Siskins etc in a lovely trip to the South Lakes. Nice bit of Solomon’s-seal by the roadside. Nice change from the usual #UKbirding
Whinchat at #HOM and Curlew Sand plus Garganey at Marshside the best of the rest from this morning. Felt pretty rare with overnight rain and a bit of mist - great morning birding!
Smart ad American Golden Plover on #BanksMarsh this morning briefly - checked my pics, looked back up and couldn’t find it again despite another half hour looking. Hopefully it will come back. Also Cuckoo and Greenshank here #UKbirding
Nice to watch the Kingfishers chasing each other around Brickcroft this morning - not seen them for ages. Sadly, neither the Great Crested on the south pit or the Little Grebe on the north pit seem to be able to attract a mate - hopefully still time #UKbirding
First couple of singing Chiffchaff on the Brickcroft this morning - the sound of better things to come
Todd’s Canada, min 47 Russian Whitefront, fem Hen Harrier through east, 52 Barnacle best of Banks Marsh #UKbirding
Great combo of White-rumped Sand and WWBT (if it’s the same bird, which I guess it is, where’s it been for 5 weeks?)at #Marshside this morning - absolute quality! #UKbirding
Pinks streaming off the marsh to go high east this morning - could be some good skeins for you @alexanderlees.bsky.social #UKbirding
Great to find this American Golden Plover at #HOMbirds this morning - think I’ve now found half the total Lancs records it’s, crazy! Flew off north after being flushed by Kestrel. #Lansbirding # UKbitding
The juv Monties showed really nicely in great light this morning at #Marshside #UKbirding - what a cracker
Spent an hour with a fantastic group of at least 15 Med Gulls at Howick Cross this morning. The largest group in #Lancsbirding away from the main breeding site I’ve seen. Mainly adults but also some 1st and 2nd summers plus at least 1 ringed bird - absolutely brilliant #UKbirding
An interesting small/medium dark winged, dark rumped wader briefly in flight at #HOMbirds this morning moving from east to west side, but I can’t find it in a search of the west pools - very frustrating!
Very jealous of my neighbours 2 spikes of Bee Orchid - my grass is just too shaded unfortunately #UKorchids
Some really enjoyable seawatching at Starr Gate #Fyldebirding this morning with great company. 7 Fulmar the highlights, which is a good count here, plus good numbers of Manx, Kittiwake and Gannet constantly flying through #UKbirding - some “atmospheric” record shots
Another Lesser Whitethroat rattling away in the back field this afternoon as I sat in the garden. At least 6 local #Longtonbitds records this year, one at Banks Marsh, and one on each of the golf courses at #Marshside mark another decent year for the species on my various local sites
Pair LRP with 3 chicks, Golden Plover, 6 pair Arctic, 2 pair Common Tern, 9 Yellow Wag (7m, 2f), 22 Dunlin, Snipe, Barn Owl, Sparrowhawk, pair Wigeon, Reed Warbler best of #HOMbirds #UKbirding
The drake Green-winged Teal still at #Marshside early am, but the golf course was very quiet and cold with frost on the ground in some exposed areas…. #UKbirding
Shambolic effort of a record shot for a really decent #Marshside bird - Little Tern just flew over the reserve, across the road and then out south west onto salt marsh #UKbirding
3 Greenshank, LRP, 13 Whimbrel, Barn Owl, 10 + Arctic Tern, 2 Dunlin, cr Avocet best of a brief look at #HOMbirds this morning - very cold and windy! #UKbirding
