Meanwhile, the headlines throughout town will be about Rufus Sr. having a revenge baby—
Tseng

This is only business. Don’t take it personal.
“Hmm. I’ve once wondered why the elder President always kept oil in his rooms so much.”
you're beautiful , and evil , too sinister and vile
Tseng responded with a smug grin. The emotion being the first he showed the slightest smile after months of neutrality. Reason being more sinister than joyful. Answering the question is easy, but why not keep him in suspense for a while. He —
Reno gasps and coughs as he can finally breathe properly again. He collapses back against the wall, head tilted back to get the most air back in. He eyes Tseng suspiciously. "What're you gonna do?" He knows his boss can be a sadist. And Reno knows he's asked for it.
His face grew paler as he muttered. “Oh god no.”

“. . .” Brows furrowed, his anger was apparent on the surface. But within? There was a little uncertainty. Tseng has killed his targets for less. But Reno? Something compelled him to refrain. What made him so important, he wondered before finally —
"If you were going to fire me, you would have done it years ago." Blood trickles from his lip. He is still grinning. "Go on. Get rid of me if you want." It's bravado. Reno loves being a Turk. He also actually quite likes being alive. But he also knows Tseng won't do it.
Tseng made his way towards Reno and grabbed him by his neck. “Physical assault on your superiors leads to termination without severance.” His head tilted slightly. His stoic expression replaced by cold contempt. “But that doesn’t matter to you, correct? Being neurologically defiant.”
The air is forced from his lungs and he hits the wall behind them. He can barely breathe, no air to laugh. But he grins manically at Tseng.
That made him laugh a little. The reason being more so for his evident honesty. Regardless, he jests. “You’re like a parent giving sweet, bias thoughts to make a child feel better.”
"Because I've watched you grow and learn for a long time, Tseng. You're a natural born leader. And more than that, you're a natural leader among the Turks. You win respect and loyalty easily."
“You chatter and chatter, yet you’re not defending yourself. Why is that?” Tseng taunted further. The man honestly feeling entertained by their little squabble. He pushed Cloud away from him.
His eyes widened, caught off guard by the method chosen to get under his skin. It didn’t make Cloud move, but it certainly struck a chord with him. Cloud had no idea to react— how could he when this sort of closeness is foreign? Well, save for one bastard doing it. “Not at all. You won’t win.”
Yet another swing failing to meet his face with a lift of his arm. Reno did, however, successfully drained the director’s patience entirely. He grabbed firmly on his wrist to keep Reno in place then drove his shoulder into his chest.
Reno managed to reduce the blows impact. He didn't resist the kick and instead rolled back and away. He came back in again, ignoring the ache for long enough to strike Tseng in the face once. Losing would be worth it for the black eye he gave his boss.
Again, so simple to read when he’s not trying. Be it force or not, this didn’t stop the Turk from pulled Cloud closer using the blond’s own weight against him. As the space between them lessened, he leaned closer to whisper near his ear. “Making this easier for me, huh?”
Cloud wouldn’t act recklessly without the necessary provocation. Not now. Not while his body is still healing. Instead, blue eyes drift to the hand gripping his wrist, his feet firmly planted on the ground. He immediately assumed it would be physical force— and he’s near certain that won’t work.
He ducked and weaved away from his flurry of fists. Determining whether to knock him out cold or something minor. Oh well. . . Once there was a little distance between them, he swung his foot harshly at Reno’s knee.
Reno launches. Fists and fury. He knows he'll probably lose, but it would be worth it to give Tseng a black eye and a busted lip.
“If you feel that much remorse, you can always make it up to me.” His gloved hand cupped his chin, thinking for a moment. “May an off day for both of us to unwind. And yes. I’m ordering you to relax as well.” The man’s tone, perhaps, a bit too bold. —
"Well, I wouldn't ask certain others to undertake such a task." A brow rose at that. Unsure if Tseng was going to make people more compliant, or just scare them. Either way. It was effective. "No, you're free to undertake this. I will not punish you for disobedience, there are other Turks +
“Initially, human resource request my assistance with compliance reviews.” His arms folded. “But I’m holding off on that. No need to cause punishment on myself for not obeying you.”
"Might be a good idea, as long as you're not expecting them all the time it will be a pleasant surprise." A small smile. "Now tell me, what are you working on?"
“Why do you always start unnecessary arguments?”
"Good. And don't think about doing it!"
Such confidence. An emotion he’s intrigued enough to watch shatter. Tseng grabbed firmly on his wrist. Cloud’s oncoming reaction determining what he decides next.
Well, he’s waiting. He can’t wait to see the Turk try — and fail.
So much for Cloud taking an off day like he RECOMMENDED.
He forgot about losing an hour’s sleep today. It’s probably going to bite him later on. For now? He’s as awake as he can be and mentally prepared for a long day.
He shrugged as his lips curl into a smirk. Rufus making the director feel even more amused but his head bow fortunately receded the feeling. “Thank you, sir. I guess I can get use to your compliments.”
"You should know by now, Tseng, that flattery was something my father preferred as a payment... I prefer loyalty. But I guess, if you want a compliment now and then... You organise your desk very well." It was technically a compliment.
For a bit, he was feeling doubt as to whether he was ready for such roles. He walked through the door. “Something tells me your position took years to accomplish. And I’m sure being director made you want to scream from immense stress. . . especially under the —
Veld cleared his throat. "I am not sanctioning any actions that could be seen as insubordination." But he would turn a blind eye. "Just consider the consequences of your actions." They arrive at Veld's favourite pub and he opens the door for Tseng. "You'll be director one day. And you will be—
“And I never made a mention of your mother.”
"Yes! Because it's a criticism of your decisions! Not your ma's. I didn't choose my name."
