What Hinkley did was an assassination attempt. Someone being stopped on another floor, multiple security checks away is the Secret Service doing its job. Stop using Trump framing.

I don’t think people hearing about this – – or even those of us in the room – – realize how far from the president, BP, and other gases incident was. It was on another floor, up some stairs, and several sets of security away. because the Washington Hilton’s hotel and other public space were open for other functions, the entire building wasn’t secured by the Secret Service, just a specific areas of the White House

Let’s be clear about the context and how that informs what he’s saying. He bombed Iran. At least 1,500 are dead; 1,800 children are dead or injured. And he’s saying Iran is dead. And now Dems are the next worst enemy. Literally.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this: America's problems are solved problems. Just not here. What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

It is easy to be hyperbolic in all political commentary, but one should be clear that Trump's rhetoric meets all the conventional definitions of fascism. Many people seem afraid of saying this because it seems extreme or hysterical, but it is what it is.

Fascism has come to America. What else can you say? These images are just from today. He calls his enemies "vermin," wants to revoke media broadcast licenses, and foments hate against members of ethnic minority groups, whom he promises to deport by the millions in order to fix country's problems.
