What Hinkley did was an assassination attempt. Someone being stopped on another floor, multiple security checks away is the Secret Service doing its job. Stop using Trump framing.

Let’s be clear about the context and how that informs what he’s saying. He bombed Iran. At least 1,500 are dead; 1,800 children are dead or injured. And he’s saying Iran is dead. And now Dems are the next worst enemy. Literally.
If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this: America's problems are solved problems. Just not here. What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵
Thank you, Canada. The 60 Minutes story has been leaked. Youtube is taking it down as copyright violation. But it aired in Canada and someone there recorded it Here it is. I think everyone should watch it to bear witness. www.muellershewrote.com/p/watch-the-...

Sunday reading: I wrote about how the regime’s latest racist hate campaign is tied to the Right’s broader attempt to redefine citizenship and national identity in service of an exclusionary white nationalist vision. A deep dive into the Right’s visions of blood-and-soil nationalism:
Trumpism Is at War with the Idea of a Citizenry of Equals
The regime’s latest racist fury is tied to the Right’s much broader attempt to redefine citizenship and national identity in service of an exclusionary white nationalist

I spent the first 33 years of my life in Maryland and DC. The first thing to know about crime in DC is that the Epstein files still haven't been released.

There simply is no substitute for the time-, personnel-, & $$$-intensive way of providing quality education. That we don't want to pay for it, as a society, does not make this any less true, & AI cannot fix that. At best, it can poorly substitute for the real solution. bsky.app/profile/mcop...
I particularly like this Jason person’s idea that Solnit gives Trump a pass. 😂😂😂 Too much time in the manosphere.
Could men who think anything I didn't pack into a single post is something I don't know or care about please take a very long hike? I know, I should just block them, and did with this Jason person.
Sen Booker still going 15hrs in. It's not the performative BS of Cruz reading Green Eggs & Ham. He's cataloguing the violations, deceptions, the breaches of national security, "mistaken" releases of classified info happening under Trump. www.youtube.com/live/v2utlMx...

A thread worth reading. Full of great perspectives on managing expectations for our sanity and sustainable activism
Imma be honest. It's really easy for me to boycott. I'm broke. So many of us have already cut out any "extras" we used to enjoy say 5 years ago. I used to get my nails done pretty regular, eat out once a week, purchase clothes when I saw something nice, travel for concerts. All cut on my end.
So this is the brain trust that is traipsing through the government and dictating what program should be cut. Only the best people. I guess we’re supposed to just hope there’s no confidential information stored on it.
Anyone Can Hack Elon Musk’s DOGE Website, Coders Say www.thedailybeast.com/anyone-can-h... and they already did…by adding at least two database entries, including prank messages that read: “This is a joke of a .gov site” and “THESE ‘EXPERTS’ LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN -roro.”
Yep. Want to unlevel that playing field.

Watch what they DO: Trump has ordered key federal health agencies to pause all external communications, which means these agencies may not provide the public with critical information on a variety of medical issues, including food recalls, infectious diseases and new drug approvals.

“There are five areas that authoritarians want to control when they attempt to decapitate a democratic state, authoritarian expert Timothy Snyder writes: health, law, administration, defense & intelligence... each of these arenas, the goal is to create chaos — and yes, even death.” bit.ly/3ABgZEm

Vanity Fair reports: “Trump transition team had a meeting today to discuss sexual assault allegations against Sec of Defense nominee @PeteHegseth.” They are, after all, a job prerequisite these days for the Trump White House.
A POTUS & SCOTUS untethered to the Constitution is a scary thing.
i think my position on this is that if it happens, it's unconstitutional. if the supreme court affirms it, it's still unconstitutional. it's an illegitimate and unlawful action and should be treated as such.

He’s checking all the fascism boxes.
It is easy to be hyperbolic in all political commentary, but one should be clear that Trump's rhetoric meets all the conventional definitions of fascism. Many people seem afraid of saying this because it seems extreme or hysterical, but it is what it is.

Fascism has come to America. What else can you say? These images are just from today. He calls his enemies "vermin," wants to revoke media broadcast licenses, and foments hate against members of ethnic minority groups, whom he promises to deport by the millions in order to fix country's problems.
