on the Red River this evening for a literary reading just because

Person living in Winnipeg/Treaty 1 territory. Winsome combo of giddy farm girl, smartass former punkette & intransigent pseudo-intellectual. Director of CMU Press. Love the show, Steve. Hello to Jason Isaacs. New novel soonish. Interwebs: suesorensen.net
I believe that I alone am keeping Maggie O'Farrell, her agent, and her publisher in soup and chocolate
I wish I lived in England so I could say, "I can't be arsed" and "down the pub" and "here's me new jumper" and "it's rubbish!" We have nothing fun to say in Canada.
I suspect this is the last time I drive hours to a nation ruled by a madman for a punk gig. But Sugar at First Avenue was beyond special, Minneapolis is close to my heart & my youngest grew up listening to @bobmouldmusic.bsky.social but had never seen him. Long Live Love 💙 📷 Theo Sorensen-Kurtz
Baby's first punk show (have clearly been remiss !) at First Avenue in Minneapolis: Sugar last night. We smiled like idiots through the whole show. His first might be mama's last: am not good at standing for a couple of hours anymore! @bobmouldmusic.bsky.social
Coming up...and anyone and everyone are welcome to attend!
My review of The Dog Stars, including Theo's tip-top Mennonite joke, which had us snickering in the back row. boxd.it/geebX1

Bugs the hell out of me that a far-right party is using the term "alternative." When my student council slate at URegina campaigned in 1984 we were "The Positive Alternative" & it meant something. I'm sick of the right stealing words like freedom. Alternative isn't for fascists. It's for Radiohead.
I was just listening to the Talking Heads song "Radiohead" and I know that's where Radiohead got their name, but I can't imagine a less Radiohead song than "Radiohead." youtu.be/QSlvxx5xpj4?...

Reviewers are being awfully hard on Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars and I think it's the usual oppression of Mennonites! Because... Who are the movie's heroes? Post-apocalyptic Colorado(?) Mennonites! It's a good movie! My review, with at least one excellent Mennonite joke, coming soon! boxd.it/RfZI

It's real. My novel is real. Hey #booksky did you know that placing advance orders for an upcoming book at your local bookstore makes it really really real? So very real? Do it for Buster! No, not Buster. Do it for my protagonist who's negotiating life AFTER BUSTER. www.dundurn.com/books_/t2211...

I've been avoiding blanching a ton of green beans from my friend's yard (they're away and asked me to do it) but then I recalled that Ridley Scott has directed five movies since he turned 80 so I figured I ought to be able to get the job done. I did it, no big deal, & now I'm ready to make a movie.
my favourite 2026 movies so far (yes one wasn't in theatres but @letterboxd.social lists it) and you can't tell me I'm not eclectic
Score another for physical media. The online sources for a particular 1983 article in Essays in Canadian Writing made no sense. A trek across the city to another university's holdings revealed that online resources missed the crucial trifold insert -- which was actually The Whole Point of the thing.
Fawning, meaningless AI-generated emails to authors keep proliferating & it's ridiculous. Last week I was urged to promote "my" novel, not written by me. This week: "What struck me most is how this novel is written with sharp, self-deprecating humour" -- about my novel which isn't out til next year.
My movie ratings pattern on @letterboxd.social (top) compared to my son Theo's (i.e. "Koawawa's") movie ratings pattern (below). Somehow the results are significant to me, and I want to spend some time analyzing them, but maybe I need another cup of coffee instead.
How does Elle Cordova know everything about me, even how I name my files??
Rough Draft vs Final Draft
if Heated Rivalry has Paul Gross next season, I guess I have to get on the bandwagon?
Remembering and honouring Saskatchewan painter David Thauberger, (1948-2026) whose work graced the cover of the 2008 CMU Press essay collection West of Eden, edited by Sue Sorensen.
I feel conflicted about whether to see the new film 'Everybody Digs Bill Evans' or not. Bill Evans means so much to me. I spent a long time working on the suite of Bill Evans poems in my book 'Acutely Life' -- I feel like maybe someone has made a film about a family member? Uneasy. But fascinated.

Lord, I need to be able to breathe between these losses. I heard Gloria Steinem speak once, and she was an astonishing, serious, real, plain-speaking, fearless force for justice. Rest in power.
My evening getting reacquainted with Mel Brooks's Blazing Saddles. Part 3. Brooks is a gloriously anarchic equal opportunity taboo breaker. The relationship between Gene Wilder's & Cleavon Little's characters is a thing of beauty -- Wilder's Waco Kid is the only person not to use derogatory terms.
My evening getting reacquainted with Mel Brooks's Blazing Saddles. Part 2. The Count Basie Moment.

rewatching Blazing Saddles I see belatedly that this is where my interest in postmodernism might have begun?
all day I was serious, worked hard, took my responsibilities seriously it sucked it's September 2nd & I'm already tired of being a grown-up excuse me while I whip out my copy of Blazing Saddles
