Gryphons, birds and creatures in ink and pencil. Artist | She/Her |30s| Easily distracted by birds | No AI

Two more new prints for my show tomorrow. The Bearded Vulture was very popular, but it was missing the end of its tail (it went into the spine of my sketchbook), so I drew a tail and combined the two using Gimp.

The next new gryphon print I've picked is the Pigeon-Coon Gryphon. People have been asking me if I have a pigeon print for a couple years now and I can finally say yes!

My first new print selection is the mage gryphon which is very similar to my most popular print from the first 100 Gryphons challenge 10 years ago. Everyone loves the rapier gyrfalcon gryphon, though to me the artwork is looking pretty old compared to my more recent stuff.

Not sure if anyone here is in Atlantic Canada, but I'm going to be at Geekorium in Halifax this weekend! Come buy a print or a book, or just have a chat about gryphons and drawing. Now I just need to decide which new gryphons to print...

A few recent gryphons as I gradually come out of hibernation. There are signs of spring everywhere, longer days, birds singing, snow melting... Spring in the maritimes is long, cold and wet, but it is still encouraging to see things waking up.

Day 16 - Eurasian Wigeon We get a few Eurasian mixed in with the local American Wigeon. The males are easy to pick out with their ruddy heads. The females are tricky, comparing head shape can be helpful for ID. Couple rough sketches to show the difference. #birbfest #BirbFest2026

Rough pencil sketches showing American and Eurasian Wigeon ducks.

Day 10 - Purple Gallinule We saw this lovely breeding plumage Gallinule in Nova Scotia in 2023 (lost, vagrant bird). The bird reminded us of Kevin from Up. I had this scanned, then that computer crashed, so here is a crappy phone picture instead. #birbfest #BirbFest2026

Colorful rail-type bird with huge yellow feet, blue-purple front and turquoise-green back. Markers are displayed along the left.

Day 9 - Indian Paradise-Flycatcher We saw the very similar African version on our trip to South Africa. A stunning bird. The white morph worked better for my B&W style, but the reddish one is also beautiful. Quick sketch, my hand is not steady enough for that long tail... #birbfest #BirbFest2026

Ink drawing of a bird with a crested black head, white body, and long tail feathers.

Day 8 - Andean Cock-of-the-rock Taking a little break today, luckily this is a bird I did last year as part of my colorful birds series. It was tricky to get the color right; the original is a bright orange and it scanned in as sorta salmon, I had to adjust it some. #birbfest #BirbFest2026

Bird with a bright orange head and upper body and a funny crescent crest obscuring its beak.

100/100 The gryphon challenge is complete! Daily ink gryphons for 100 days straight to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of my first 100 gryphons challenge. The pressure of wanting to do an extra epic gryphon was getting to me, but I pushed through with this phoenix gryphon. #gryphonchallenge
