Waiting for the short-eared owl to appear at dusk. I got great views but no photos. On the other side of the field is a large corrections facility. Oh, the places we go to watch birds! Think: sewage treatment plants, garbage dumps, etc.
The white-throated sparrow and I say Merry Christmas!
I've been listening to the ABA podcast since the beginning. I just started listening to Bird Joy. Do you have other birding podcasts to recommend? Thanks! @ababirds.bsky.social @wiscobirder.bsky.social
A high point of my adult life was spending "An Evening with Werner Herzog" at Rhodes College in 2017. He was genial, kind and validating to the creative people in the audience. He screened a doc I'd never seen, which wasn't his best but still, big fan ❤️ Sometimes it pays to meet your heroes.
Seeing photos of white-crowned sparrows here reminded me of this photo a friend took. I've always been so dazzled by striped their heads that I'd never noticed the unique patterning on their backs!
These books are brilliant! The maps, the illustrations, the text. I appreciate the comparison pages (highlighted here). Flycatchers rock! @cintylee.bsky.social text, Andrew Birch illustrations.

I am not a bird photographer!! as you can see, which is why I admire all the quality bird content here. I love Bird Humor too, and will repost the posts that make me laugh.
Early morning bird hike sky. I'm new here from Twitter looking for bird content especially! 🦅
