Alabama Public Television Board just voted to pay their contract with PBS. PBS is safe until June 30th. They also voted to take Kay Ivey's suggestion to survey the public, explore legal implications etc. until then. So we are not completely out of the woods, but we have some breathing room.

SAY NO TO INFORMAL COOPERATION
Even without a formal agreement in place, there has been informal cooperation with ICE by ALEA and other municipalities that has led to the detention of dozens of immigrants.
We want assurances that HPD will not cooperate informally with ICE, such as allowing them to be present at traffic stops or allowing them to be present when serving warrants.
No federal interference in community policing.
Collaboration between local law enforcement and federal agents actually worsens public safety

AVOID RACIAL PROFILING
Enforcement of New Anti-Immigrant State Laws SB53 and SB63 encourage racial profiling and put immigrants in danger.
Tell them that SB53 does not require contacting immigration authorities every time someone can't immediately produce documents showing their immigration status.
Ask the City and HPD to study the new laws and to use caution and restraint in their enforcement.
SB53 was already cited by Leeds Police as justification for turning Giovanna Hernandez-Martinez over to ICE, even though it had not yet even taken effect.
