Today is an end-of-season bonus opportunity to turn off lights, close window blinds, unplug chargers, and make small changes that add up to energy bill savings (and greenhouse gas emission reductions). Stay hydrated- but maybe don't break out the pumpkin spice just yet.

Empowering Frederick County with resilient, equitable solutions to environmental challenges, we're here to ensure that sustainability is for everyone. And also maybe provide some social media edutainment along the way.
This month is a great time to plant! Don't forget to include some fall-bloomers to support pollinators. Bees getting ready to hibernate, migrating monarchs & hummingbirds still need food. See all-season plant lists at: www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/BeeCity
The health of the Chesapeake Bay starts many miles away. And some of the Bay's greatest upstream allies are trees! Get a $25 coupon to plant a tree! Drop a comment if you would like us to send you info on this and other treerific local programs. #SaveTheBay #PlantTrees
Our community is strengthening its commitment to pollinator and habitat protection! See what's buzzing at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/BeeCity
Today is the start of the "Less Lawn, More Life" Challenge! A landscape can be beautiful, low-maintenance, AND biodiverse- but not if it's built around a single plant: turfgrass. Not sure how to start? Sign up so you don’t miss the free webinar tonight at 7pm! www.LessLawnMoreLife.com
This May the 4th, rebel against the turf empire and help balance the force of biodiversity. Join the FREE 'Less Lawn, More Life' challenge for: - A yard health assessment - Expert guidance - Tips to attract more birds and pollinators - Weekly step-by-step challenges www.LessLawnMoreLife.com
Carpenter Bees are very cool, very important native pollinators. They are curious but not aggressive (males can't sting). They don't eat wood. Their nesting holes can be filled in with putty or caulk. They don't like painted or varnished wood. Let's try to live in harmony with these buzzybodies!
A too-full septic tank can lead to groundwater pollution, nutrient overload, and pathogens in our waterways. That can be prevented by regular maintenance- and we'll even give you a $75 rebate for having your 💩 pumped out! www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SepticRebate
Join us at the Climate Summit tomorrow, organized by Mobilize Frederick and hosted at Hood College! We'll be presenting info on energy efficiency wins, the intersection of disaster and climate planning, and renewable energy expansion. Be part of the action! Learn more at: www.mobilizefrederick.org
The groundhog's meteorological resume is questionable and his prediction accuracy rate is 30%. It's probably a good idea to stock up on hot cocoa just to be safe. But go lighter on the deicer, okay? Just 12oz for 10 sidewalk squares. #ProtectTheBay #WhyIsWinterSoWintry #CanWeHibernate
Mark your calendars: February 27-28 will be the 4th Annual Climate Summit. All are welcome and students attend free! This year’s theme, “Local Solutions to Global Challenges” emphasizes the power of collective action. Visit www.mobilizefrederick.org/2026-summit-overview for more info.
Some reasons not to over-apply deicers: - Makes money disappear faster, but not ice. - Can kill grass & landscape plants and burn pet's feet. - Causes concrete to deteriorate. - Pollutes soils & waterways and pretty much stays in the environment forever. www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SaltSmart
Our local pride means we want to protect the Bay (not spread Old Bay) so we use less salt in our winter operations. The liquid brine sprayed before a storm contains only 23% salt but still prevents ice from sticking to roadways & makes plowing more efficient. www.frederickcountymd.gov/SaltSmart
Last year we provided 126 Frederick County low- to moderate-income households with no-cost home upgrades and appliance rebates! Let your neighbors know they can apply online- or at the Asian American Center of Frederick if they need translation support. www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/PSR
Need an excuse not to "clean up" your yard? 🐝 Many native bees spend winter asleep in stems, leaves, and underground burrows. Worried about looking "messy" or what your HOA will say? Maryland law helps protect naturalized landscapes! Read our blog post here: www.frederickcountymd.gov/8674
Join us to discuss great green plans for our community- and how you can get involved! We'll be at Sandbox Brewhouse on February 5 from 5-7pm. Stop by for great conversation, connect with neighbors, share ideas, and raise a glass to a more sustainable future! RSVP at bit.ly/February-HH

Help protect local wildlife by swapping your porch light! Amber, yellow, or red bulbs are less disruptive to bats, pollinators, and migrating birds than bright white or blue light. Adding a motion sensor or downward light deflector helps reduce light pollution as well.

Help pollinators: let fallen leaves, dried up stems & old plants stay in your yard for the winter. They're valuable habitats for overwintering insects like luna moths, honeybees, & butterflies. If you want leaves off a lawn, rake them under shrubs and into flower or vegetable beds.
