So thankful to the CA Legislature for their continued support of this incredible program! Cal-Bridge brings together California’s outstanding higher education systems (CCC, CSU, UC) to build pathways that help talented, diverse students pursue advanced degrees and careers in STEM.

I just figured out how to make and use avatars on Zoom. I'm sure I'm like N years late to the game but here we go. There's a lot of garbage out there, so getting a couple of minutes of childlike wonder feels good.

One consequence of bringing lunch more is I often ask myself: "Is 10am too early to eat my sandwich?" In my not bringing lunch era I feel like I would got to 2pm and be like - "yeah I'd better go eat something" What is happening to my brain and tummy?!?!

Was late to a meeting with an admin. Surprisingly, it was not *for the drama*. But helping a student of mine - a transfer student lost in understanding her new campus rules. She left feeling less alone & (I hope) less confused. Not a flex. Just choosing care > optics. This is my new AY energy.

Do you eat at restaurants? Immigrants likely prepared your food and washed your dishes. Do you live in a house or an apartment? Immigrants likely built your home. Do you buy groceries? Immigrants picked your fruits and vegetables. Now you want to deport immigrants? Enjoy the pain that follows.

Quick question for my fellow professor colleagues, if you are running a student program & use a food vendor that isn't in the campus system are you as faculty supposed to (1) know how to add a vendor to said system, (2) add the vendor to said system? Just testing something...

Started my class with vibes like “I’ve been gone for a year & don’t feel like being here. But prob & statistics are beautiful, so let’s talk strategies.” At lunch a student stopped me to say they enjoyed class today 🥰 Surprised & grateful. The institution? Exhausting. The students? Everything.

Day 2 of being back at work - it's the Applied Mathematics retreat - the first year's are all introducing themselves. So many outdoor hobbies!! Gardening, sports, hiking, cricket.... As an 'indoor cat' myself, I'm glad that there was at least someone who said video games.

Well - it's the faculty retreat today. I suppose this means that Sabbatical is really over. 😭 This was a year marked with personal challenges and growth. So much growth that I'm confident I won't immediately volunteer for everything out of guilt for being gone last year! 😎

I was dreading Monday - then 2 people canceled meetings we had scheduled. Suddenly this Monday is not so bad 😎 Remember, every time you cancel a meeting you might just be making someone's day. (Especially on a Monday.)

Had an academic bad dream/nightmare, overheard a faculty meeting where it was clear I would get my tenure vote would not be positive. I am a Full Professor....have been so for 4 years. Yowza, those back to school bad dreams never stop do they ;)

Every time I deal with University Accounting, I’m reminded that it shares nearly nothing with personal finance. Except maybe existential dread. But - on the plus side, it's a *non-news-related* frustration - and a great opportunity to practice patience and mindfulness.
