When the education system demands things that aren't developmentally appropriate, you end up creating issues not solving them. Young children are not meant to be static for long periods of time. If we insist they are, we create 'behaviour problems' that are actually just children behaving normally.

We talked this morning at Scottish Childminding Assoc Conference quite a bit about the long-term impacts of the pandemic on young children's biology. It has affected speech & language development, which in turns predicts all sorts of adult outcomes. It's not going away. It is in their biology.

I am reaching the stage where I feel parliament needs reminding that the state enforced a lockdown on kids where they could not play together for 2 years. Had to learn remotely. Had to sit in abusive homes whilst police handed out fines.

Look at this slide from the Speech & Language Workshop at Scottish Childminding Assoc this morning. Vocabulary at age 5 is a predictor of: - Literacy skills at age 11 - Unemployment at age 35 - Adult mental health Attuned, joyful relationships in childhood matter.

"I found that really emotional and shed a few tears." YES! Even online! Tears are always a sign of success for me. They are a sign of people being courageous in contemplating edgy questions. Thank you Scottish Childminding Assoc.
