The collection of articles examining each streetcar route is now complete and online. It's not my intent that readers pore over every word and diagram, but that this is a resource for those interested in specific routes. (1)

A series of articles detailing streetcar operating speeds will be published on my site on August 17-18. This begins with an overview that includes links to route-specific posts. This is a work in progress. stevemunro.ca/2026/08/17/h...
A review of travel speeds and dwell times/delay locations on 506 Carlton. stevemunro.ca/2026/08/03/h...
A detailed exploration of transit vehicle speeds on 510 Spadina: stevemunro.ca/2026/07/31/h... Problems are not only at junctions, and traffic signal priority remains a big issue on this route. First article in a series.
Motions at TTC and City Council urge staff to look harder at the effects of new development on transit capacity. The Capacity Expansion Programs for Lines 1 and 2 need major review, and a CEP for surface transit is badly needed. stevemunro.ca/2026/07/27/a...
Proposals to speed streetcars focus recently on 506 Carlton. The situation is more complex than a few simple fixes: stevemunro.ca/2026/07/26/i...
I'm utterly totally completely fed up with right wing pols in both Canada and the USA and wish them nothing but political oblivion. As therapy, I've just binged season one of The West Wing. Yes it's fantasy but it speaks to an era of hope in politics.
TTC's service changes for July 26 consist primarily of reversing the World Cup improvements, as well as the resumption of construction on College/Carlton. stevemunro.ca/2026/07/25/t...

Water main, sewer and track construction on College/Carlton between Bay and Church will divert 506/306 Carlton streetcars to Dundas between Bay and Parliament from July 26 to the end of 2026. stevemunro.ca/2026/07/07/c...
Watermain and track construction projects will displace streetcar service from King Street west of Spadina for an extended period starting in November 2026 and continuing well into 2027.
Metrolinx June 25 board meeting: Half-billion$ write off for new, but inappropriate signals; GO project status update; Lines 5/6 status update; much increased fare enforcement penalties. stevemunro.ca/2026/07/01/m...
A review of TTC delay logs for surface routes from 2025-26 shows a variety of common issues, notably a shortfall in staffing. Stats for 6 Finch have improved substantially in recent months. stevemunro.ca/2026/06/27/r...
The waterfront east transit line has funding from three levels of government, but what that will buy continues to dwindle. Is it time for an open, honest discussion about development and transit options here? stevemunro.ca/2026/06/21/r...
A review of 505 Dundas travel times between Dufferin and University from 2024 to 2026 shows that changes to traffic regs had minimal effect. Certain areas show consistent day-of-week effects with longer travel times on certain days, and not only during the peak period. stevemunro.ca/2026/06/15/5...
TTC plans extensive changes to bus services on June 21 both for reduced summer demand and staffing constraints. It is not clear if this is a budgetary or recruitment problem, or a combo of both. stevemunro.ca/2026/06/08/t...
TTC service will change on June 7 on several streetcar routes, and additional special arrangements will apply to FIFA game days. stevemunro.ca/2026/06/06/t...
With the World Cup approaching, there's a lot of attention on the Dufferin and Bathurst red lanes. Short version: travel times might be down slightly and more reliable, but headways are a mess and gaps/bunching undo the benefit. TTC has a *lot* of work to do. stevemunro.ca/2026/06/03/r...
A review of TTC subway delays from January 2025 to April 2026 showing the most prevalent delay types and those that bring the longest delays. stevemunro.ca/2026/06/03/r...

Service in the Jane corridor left a lot to be desired before the route was split when Line 5 opened in February. Since then, it has improved modestly but only relative to a very bad reference point. (1)
The Waterfront East transit stakeholder advisory committee had an update from City and Waterfront TO staff yesterday. To call it threadbare would be generous. stevemunro.ca/2026/05/14/a... This project is drifting into the 2030s with no clear plan for completion.
Given my background it's no surprise that a lot of reels show up in my FB feed of streetcars old and new. It's amazing (and I say that tongue in cheek) that century old cars can drive along one and two lane streets without pause, and run through junctions without Toronto's stop-check-go nonsense.
You can tell who CTV is shilling for when I get an interview request about "how a new mayor and city council might impact Toronto's transit system". Nothing like an unbiased premise.
The TTC has announced a shutdown by Metrolinx of 6 Finch West from Friday May 15 to Monday May 18 inclusive. See www.ttc.ca/service-advi...
The 34 Eglinton bus is supposed to be an alternative to Line 5 for people who cannot walk to an LRT station or choose not to. It is a textbook example of leaving an "accessible" service to rot. stevemunro.ca/2026/05/10/s...
