I've been putting together more Sableheart worldbuilding stuff. Here's a lovely anomalous plant disease that no one knows how to deal with! 🌲

A worldbuilding sheet with information and illustrations on a fictional plant virus called "haemoblight". Text of each section close-up is included in alt text of subsequent images."HAEMOBLIGHT" Haemoblight is a novel plant virus that primarily affects fruits, vegetables, and tubers. It causes rapid liquefactive necrosis and a deep red coloration of the interior. It only occurs in fully mature plants, and once infection is found, it will bring on the decay of all produce. Trees do not die, but will become completely sterile. Other host plants will typically die shortly after the infection becomes apparent. The resulting "red matter" within the most heavily infected parts of the plant is molecularly highly similar to Ixirian blood, and appears to be some sort of fusion between blood and plant matter, with hemoglobin replacing much of the phytoglobin. It's unknown how such a drastic change occurs, due to how quickly the virus takes effect and destroys its hosts. Clotting only seems to occur at cuts on leaves and stems, and the red matter within takes on a smooth, viscous consistency. No deaths have been reported from consumption of affected produce, but some hospitalizations have occurred from people knowingly eating them just to see what would happen. The answer is severe stomach irritation resulting in vomiting, with the potential for dangerous amounts of iron buildup within the body. The flavor is reportedly identical to blood. (A purple plum-like fruit with a slice cut out, showing a pale yellow interior).Laboratories have been unable to replicate it, and there are no signs of infection until after the produce has been infected beyond the point of recovery, making it extremely difficult to research. It is unknown exactly how it spreads; while infected plants do appear to spread it to other nearby plants, it has been known to appear in isolated locations as well, seemingly out of nowhere. There is currently no treatment, and it is recommended that all host plants in affected plots are destroyed and soil replaced before any replanting. The resulting scarcity has caused price surges of affected produce, with tree fruits being hit the hardest due to the need to replace entire trees, which seem to have the highest transmission rate. To the right is a comparison between a healthy and blighted goudmelon specimen. The healthy specimen has a slice taken out, showing juicy yellow interior with blue seeds, webbing on the surface due to pollination, a soft minty green coloration, and a blue stem and leaves. The blighted specimen looks rotted, with a slice taken out to show that the inside is full of red slime oozing out. It has red splotching all over its dull green surface and bright red blisters that "bleed" when pressed or punctured. Its stem is also "bleeding" where the cut is.Current ixirian monarch King Stratus is looking at options to continue sourcing the produce. Nearby habitable planet Edana (a protected multi-species planet which has no central government, instead having districts with their own rules) has the perfect conditions to grow most of the affected plants, but Ixirios does not own a significant enough portion of land to make up for the loss. King Stratus's insistence on the acquisition of more land on Edana for this purpose, even with the possibility of negatively affecting local populations, has created some tension between the whole of the Ixirian government and the communities living on Edana. Critics also argue that even if all the produce could be outsourced to Edana, the produce would still need to be transported, and this wouldn't fix the price problem. Scientists are also concerned about the consequences of haemoblight on the ecosystem of Ixirios itself; while it has yet to wipe out an entire species, the possibility of this has been alarming. They have been pushing for increased funding to try to get the virus under control locally.

If anyone is curious, the adopts are based on things I personally like - that way I can add the option of drawing them for refs and as bonus art for the designs too! (i get burnt out super fast otherwise) downside is I ended up keeping a few that I initially designed because i got too attached...
