"bowl" as menu item category: artificial & false. complicit in reducing of foods to mere carbs and proteins. true bowl foods need not mention the bowl. naming it diminishes them. "plate" as menu item category: implies bounty, diversity, adventure. trustworthy & kind. we love a plate that's heaping.
I can't believe in ~5 years of visiting miami I've never visited the everglades until now. what a mindblowing park, it's like someone upturned a bucket of animals in front of every step you take. all of these animals were on a short, heavily traffic path! puts our california parks to shame tbh
the 2000s-10s obsession with the supposed repulsiveness of the word moist misled our collective ire from the real grossest word out there: frosh
remember how the 00s tried to make "guesstimate" a thing? I'm glad it's dead it's literally just "estimate" but less cute
whoa splatoon raiders is actually the first game to get me psyched for switch 2... I don't think my heart has pvp in but I WILL take a single player spinoff thank you
the narrative that LA is in any way invaded or occupied by immigrants and the people seeking to protect them has me fucking furious. out of all the heartbreaking shit out there, in this moment that's what's getting me the most.
shout out to these lovely ladies for helping everyone cross the street safely
ok I need to preface this by making clear that I adore being a teacher and giving students the opportunity to discover new parts of the community they live in is incredibly gratifying and never for a moment do I wish I was doing anything else FUCK field trips tho
heard a weird papery sound in my classroom today, turned out it was this big boy trying to escape through a window
the last week was an insane rollercoaster. I rode 66 miles (on 4 hours of sleep) on saturday to fundraise for oakland schools, then learned that we lost 6 staffmembers to d*ge bullshit on sunday, then narrowly averted a one day strike the same thursday we tentatively brought those staffmembers back
I explained the difference in pronunciation between the words "live," "leave," and "leaf" to a spanish first-language student today, and he looked at me wide-eyed and said "english is crazy."
probably feels good as fuckkkkkk to be a lizard basking on a rock
not to straight up quote my damn self but I told a student today "in this classroom, our waifus' clothing stays on" and that's what real pedagogy is
student came to my room today, told me he had a present for me, then handed me a color photocopy of his middle finger
