Chairman Kelley's contempt for me made national news. I took his criticism of me seriously. If I wasn’t able to earn his trust by demonstrating competence and initiative, maybe I could earn his trust by doing less, being less visible. (Spoiler alert, it didn't work.)

As the 2022 election was approaching, I was deeply concerned about voter protection (in light of the election denialism of 2020). I was attending meetings with state party leaders from other states and learning about how other states do Voter Protection (aka VoPro).

Chairman Kelley (head of the Alabama Democratic Party) made it clear to me very early in our 4-year term that he didn't want me to do anything at all. I asked repeatedly for approved ways to be helpful, but I was firmly rejected.

Remember when attorneys for Alabama (the notorious Bill Lunsford & partners) got caught using AI to write their legal briefs, which included completely fabricated citations? The AL Dept of Corrections wants to hire him again and give him even more of our tax dollars.

Attorney General Steve Marshall has weighed in. Voters can choose either party's primary for the August 11 Special Primary. In Congressional Districts 1, 2, and 7, there's no Democratic ballot, so you just march right in and pick the Republican ballot. Let's make some #goodtrouble

The Alabama Democratic Party is governed by a board called the State Democratic Executive Committee (approx 250 people). The members of the SDEC were elected in the Primary on May 19th and will meet in Montgomery on August 8th (11am to 6pm) to elect officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, etc.).

I first met Allison Montgomery several years ago at a Pride event. She is a young woman, but she has been advocating for a more just Alabama for years. Her commitment and clarity of vision is exactly what we need in the Alabama State House. Let's get her elected in House District 25!

What does the State Democratic Party do? (Part 1) The official (required) duties of a party are largely administrative. Lots of boring paperwork.

Alabama Democrats just keep proposing an end to taxes on groceries. Alabama Republicans just keep saying no. This isn't some deeply held conviction. Republican legislatures in other states have allowed the state to stop taxing groceries. But not Alabama Republicans. No, siree.

See that one dot that stands all alone? That's Alabama! Nationwide, the average margin of victory in the general election for State House seats is 28%. In Alabama, it's 57%, meaning most races are won by a huge margin. That makes Alabama dead last in the nation for competitive seats.

Frustrated with money in politics? Well, I've got some bad news. The National Republican Senatorial Committee just won a case at the Supreme Court to make it easier for wealthy donors to influence elections.

These are the current officers of the Alabama Democratic Party. Reed and Kelley do all the hiring of party staff, sometimes including Ben or Ed. None of the other officers have ever been invited to a staff meeting or officer meeting nor been included in any decision.

Rudolph Drake is our Democratic Nominee for AL State Senate District 2 (Huntsville area). He served in the Navy and then in the Department of Defense. His priorities are affordable healthcare, affordable housing, and quality public education. Keep an eye on this one!

My first trip to the Alabama Democratic Party HQ after being elected Vice Chair a few days earlier. I took the photo, then left. I didn't mention that Chair Kelley had my ADP email account turned off that morning, and had a staffer call to un-invite me to Orientation that day.

Donald Trump apparently made more than $2.2 billion in 2025. That's nearly four times as much as he made in 2024. Most of it comes from cryptocurrency, real estate, and merchandise sales. The hat below goes for $55, profits go to him, not to our armed forces. Not cool.

What more could you want from your Alabama State Treasurer than an experienced & highly sought-after banker who is accustomed to dealing with budgets in the billions? Rosilyn Houston is a rock star and I can't believe we got lucky enough to have her on the Democratic ticket!

I love my country and my state. I love it enough to want the absolute BEST for it and to be willing to sacrifice for it. That means I'm willing to talk about its flaws because I think we can address those flaws. And I'm here to do my part.

I was elected Vice Chair of the Alabama Democratic Party on August 13, 2022. I ran for Chair and didn't win, but I was eager to serve any way I could, so I ran for Vice Chair. If I'd lost that, I'd have run for Secretary. I just wanted to be on the team and be able to contribute.

Pam Howard, Dem for House District 40 noticed the flag at the Public Safety complex was getting tattered after the storms, so she brought them a new one. Then she took the tattered flag to American Legion - Post 57 for a proper flag retirement ceremony. I'm proud to back Pam!

Alabama brackets are nothing but byes. No wonder most people aren't interested in politics.

If you vote Democrat, YOU ARE THE PARTY. If the party isn't what you want it to be, you have the power to change it. But don't expect it to be easy. Changing culture doesn't happen just by wishing, it requires hard work! (And I really want to PARTY with you!)
