I wrote this song “Prison Break” after reading Assata’s autobiography, one of the most transformative texts of my life. Her poem “Affirmation” became a profound teacher, and in this moment, I am telling her what that poem meant to me. Assata, may you dance free in the Realm of the Ancestors. Ase.
