I’m not seeing people talk about the closure of Divine Playhouse. An arts hub for queer community, shutdown days after opening because of religious extremists once again attacking queer spaces and people. In trying to preserve a church you’ve quickened the process of turning it into apartments??

Duckie passed away today. I’m not sure how, we found him when we went to get everyone moved to new place. He just turned 8. Everything is a little duller without him, I miss him so so much. Cherry misses him too I think. Going to get him and Cookie to the vets just to be safe. Sorry Duck-butt 🍉

cool paper arguing LLMs can be implemented as a shitload of goats in Age of Empires II... thus it'd be silly to assume / project human-like consciousness onto it

This paper doesn't use the term "intentional stance," but it does really expose that imputation of consciousness is an act by the observer that's usually not based on dispassionate analysis of the observed's internal structures. It's just vibes, and those aren't sufficient. arxiv.org/pdf/2605.31514

Much research has been carried out on large language models (LLMs) and LLMpowered agentic workflows. However, many works within the field state emergence of, ascribe to, or assume, generalised anthropomorphic attributes to them (e.g., morality or understanding of natural language). Our goal is not to argue in favour or against the existence of these attributes, but to point out that these conclusions could be incorrect. For this we build and train a simple neural network on the videogame Age of Empires II, and note that any entity in a sufficiently-powerful substrate, such as LEGO or the Greater Boston Area, could also present such attributes. Hence, the purported anthropomorphic attributes of LLMs are empirically non-unique: although some properties (e.g., responses to prompts) could remain constant, others, such as the interpretation of their perceived behaviour, might change with the substrate. Thus, any empirically-grounded discussion requires explicit measurement criteria; otherwise the interpretation is left to the representation. We then show that assuming that these attributes exist or not in a system, independent of the substrate and in a generalised way, leads to either circular or uninformative conclusions, regardless of the experimenter’s viewpoint on the subject. Finally we propose a ‘null’ assumption, where one assumes LLM non-uniqueness instead of assuming anthropomorphic attributes to set up an experiment, along with examples of it. We also discuss potential objections to our work, briefly survey the field, and prove that Age of Empires II is functionally- and Turing-complete.

I am a dev currently working in Godot on a game we are taking to full production. It's a brilliant engine, but you can definitely tell it's young software. It's on a fantastic path to become a truly excellent engine, and it is VERY capable, but it's not the solution for every problem unity has.

I think one of the key failings where we're not investing in or caring for people is the dire lack of mentoring and knowledge share initiatives. Passing on "the knowledge" is an indescribable value of human connection, culture, and growth that is slowly being lost. Share knowledge with peers!

Will take a lil to unpack it all, appreciate everyone who checked in after! Called nurse mum when we got back to the hotel, helped to chat about it! The guy was alert and sitting in the ambulance as we left so he will be ok most likely, he was extremely lucky how he fell and that we were there!!

Had a fun, if challenging, visit to MFC Sorry to peeps we saw on Sunday, Chel and I were a bit rattled Sat night as we were getting off the train someone got clipped by the train and hit their head on the platform HARD Chel's first aid training kicked in and saved the dude but we were a bit shaken

Work on the game is slowly coming together, and it's starting to feel much more like an actual game, rather than a collection of tech experiments. We should have something to show for it by the end of the month!
