If you're eyeing up a new fighting game, but are new to the genre and don't know where to start, I give you my six commandments... A brief guide on how to enjoy, and learn fighting games 🎮

I. PLAY WHO YOU THINK IS COOL
YOU WILL PLAY MORE THIS WAY. TRY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS OUT, IF NONE OF THEM CLICK YOU ARE PROBABLY OUT OF LUCK UNTIL DLC OR A DIFFERENT GAME DROPS.
(SORRY THIS SUCKS WHEN THIS HAPPENS)

II. PLAY THE GAME
IMPROVEMENT IS ONE OF THE CORE APPEALS OF FIGHTING GAMES, ASSUMING YOU WANT THIS, YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME. IDEALLY YOU'D PLAY OFFLINE WITH FRIENDS TO MINIMIZE THE FRUSTRATION OF GETTING WASHED BY SOME ANONYMOUS STONER WITH A 1 BAR WIFI CONNECTION, BUT PLAY IT IN ANY CAPACITY THAT IS FUN TO YOU. YOU NEED TO PUT TIME IN TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH YOUR CHARACTER AND THE SYSTEMS OF THE GAME. YOU WILL PROBABLY GET THE BRAKES BEATEN OFF YOU (FREQUENTLY) WE ALL HAVE, WHICH IS WHY ASKING FOR ADVICE IS WELCOME AND NORMAL.

III. YOUR OPPONENT IS ASS UNTIL PROVEN GODLIKE
YOU WILL GET EXPLODED TRYING TO PLAY RESPECTFULLY AGAINST SOMEONE WHO HAS NO REGARD FOR LIFE OR DEATH, MAKE THEM EARN YOUR RESPECT. RUN YOUR MOST IGNORANT PLAYS, SMASH YOUR DUMBEST BUTTON. YOU PROBABLY WON'T FEEL COOL, LIKE YOU DIDN'T EARN IT, BUT YOU WILL FILTER OUT THE CHAFF UNTIL THE WHEAT SHOWS UP TO BEAT YOUR ASS. THIS IS WHERE THEY WILL MAKE YOU PLAY BETTER AND WORK FOR YOUR WINS.

IV. HIT THE BRICKS IF YOU'RE GETTING TILTED
FRUSTRATION AND DISAPPOINTMENT ARE EXPECTED EMOTIONS TO RUN INTO, BUT YOU SHOULD BE HAVING FUN. TAKE A BREAK AND COME BACK LATER. DOUBLY TRUE IF YOU'RE OFFLINE, BC NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY FIGHTING GAMES WITH A DICKHEAD. THE WORST TIME PLAYING FIGHTING GAMES IS WHEN THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU IS FURIOUS THAT YOU'RE STUNTING ON THEM, OR, NEEDS TO BE SOOTHED AFTER BEING THROTTLED. THIS IS VIDEO GAMES, LET'S BE SO NORMAL ABOUT IT PLEASE.

V. RANK IS FAKE, DO NOT BELIEVE HIS LIES
IF YOU MUST PLAY ONLINE, DO NOT GET CAUGHT IN THE TRAP OF GRINDING RANK FOR VALIDATION OF YOUR IMPROVEMENT AS A PLAYER, OR AS AN EVALUATION OF SELF WORTH. IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT I ADVOCATE FOR CASUAL MATCHES IN THE ONLINE REALM. YOU WILL PROBABLY GET MATCHED UP WITH SOME BRUISER WHO WILL ANNIHILATE YOU. LIKE IF YOUR FAMILY WATCHED THE MATCH THEY WOULD LOOK AWAY LIKE SOMETHING THEY GOUND ON LIVELEAK. THIS IS WHERE YOU FOCUS ON SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF YOUR GAME. BREAK IT DOWN INTO SMALL, ACHIEVABLE GOALS. ANTI-AIRS, BLOCKING SUCCESSFULLY, TECHING THE THROWS, ETC... BECAUSE WHILE IT IS TRUE THAT THE GOAL IS TO "WIN", THE REAL HIDDEN OBJECTIVE IS TO LEARN.
TIP: IF YOU ARE GETTING MANHANDLED AND ARE HARD STUCK AT A CERTAIN RANK THERE IS A WEAK POINT IN YOUR ARMOR, AN ASPECT OF YOUR GAME THAT YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO*. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE THE LOWER RANK YOU'RE AT. WATCH A REPLAY, OR HAVE YOUR GODLIKE FRIEND SPECTATE YOUR GAME TO GIVE YOU FEEDBACK.
*EX) ARE YOU GETTING BLOWN UP BY FAKE SHIT? ARE YOU REACTING TO JUMP-INS? DO YOU KNOW YOUR STRONGEST BUTTONS? ARE YOU DROPPING BREAD AND BUTTER COMBOS? ARE YOU MAKING USE OF THE SYSTEM MECHANICS? ETC, ETC.

VI. FIGHTING GAMES ARE SOCIAL
OK, HONESTLY, IN MY VIEW THIS IS AS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND AS THE FIRST COMMANDMENT, BUT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE READ ALL THIS IF I LEAD WITH IT WOULD YOU? ANYWAYS, VAYA CON DIOS IF IT IS YOUR PREROGATIVE TO JUST BE AN ONLINE WARRIOR, OR A HUMBLE LAB MONSTER. BUT FOR MY MONEY, THE BEST ASPECT OF FIGHTING GAMES ARE THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE THEM. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO ACCOST A FRIEND OF YOURS TO PLAY WITH YOU, OR GO TO YOUR LOCAL AND MEET SOMEONE NEW IF YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE AN ACTIVE SCENE. SPEAKING FOR MYSELF, THE FRIENDS I GAINED FROM FIGHTING GAMES AND THE MEMORIES I HAVE WITH THEM ARE THE REASON I STILL ROCK WITH FIGHTING GAMES SO MUCH. MASTERY AND SELF IMPROVEMENT ARE MAJOR PILLARS THAT MAKE UP THE GAME PLEASURES OF FIGHTERS, BUT THE ONE THAT SUPPORTS THE ENTIRE CONSTRUCT, THE ONE THAT WILL KEEP YOU COMING BACK FOR NEW PATCHES AND GAMES EVEN IF THEY ARE STRAIGHT ASS, IS THE SOCIAL ASPECT. EVEN IF THE GAMES THEMSELVES DON'T DO IT FOR YOU, THERE IS ALWAYS SPACE FOR THE SPECTATORS, THE ARTISTS, THE COSPLAYERS, THE FUJOS, ETC... THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO FIND YOUR WAY INTO THE BIG TENT OF FIGHTING GAMES, AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A NEW EXCITING PERSON TO MEET... FIGHTING GAMES GAVE ME FRIENDS, MY ROCK BAND, MY GIRLFRIEND, AND MY LIFE. THEY ARE NOT FOR EVERYBODY, BUT I WISH EVERYONE PICKS UP A HOBBY THAT GIVES THEM THE KIND OF JOY THAT FIGHTING GAMES HAVE GIVEN ME.

So they hid the fact he worked on this game for months. Then people pieced it together through gameplay flow, design principles, and information not obvious to the public. Then the devs swore he was a networking guy, THEN it turns out hes THE DIRECTOR. This is Diesel Legacy 2. The same play as that
