imo, “tax the rich” resonates because there is an inherent unfairness in the tax code that favors the wealthy. Yes, the middle class needs to pay taxes. However, in a system that favors capital over labor, we need to know that the ultra wealthy are net contributors.

One of my increasingly strongly held opinions is that "Tax the rich" is not only a bad slogan, but an actually harmful one. It implies that we can fund the state we want merely on the back of the wealthy (we can't), it implies that taxes are punishment (they're not) and it doesn't provide 1/
