I'm at Data Council for Tuesday and Wednesday this week! Say hello if you see me (and make sure your nametag is facing out so I can clock your name as you walk up 😉)
I cynically joke about companies wanting to use LLMs because they don’t know how to build a proper UI, but actually this is a perfect use case
This is really clever. www.dbreunig.com/2025/02/24/b...
has there been any progress on bsky algorithms that actually mimic twitter's for you experience? everytime I go to the feeds view is the same 10 feeds I don't care about.
This post from Ramp is really cool. Tickles all my "data orderliness" spots engineering.ramp.com/industry_cla...
From RAG to Richness: How Ramp Revamped Industry Classification
How Ramp used Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to build a state-of-the-art in-house industry classification model.

the way my son watches his fish for a few minutes after feeding them fills my heart so much
I love this article world.hey.com/jason/we-inc...
We increased conversion ~30% and we don't know exactly how
Not too long ago, we dedicated a 6-week cycle to improving Basecamp's onboarding flows. The aim was to increase conversion from trial to paid by smoothing out the initial experience of getting going, ...

We had a baby girl today! Everyone is healthy, hearts are full.
When did they start asking if you want a latte got or cold... It's always hot, dammit!
Is throwing a potato in someone's yards and thanking them for decorating a thing? Or am I being ounked? I'm told it's a tradtion...
I enjoyed this post from my good friend Emilie! open.substack.com/pub/emilie/p...
Maternity leave is boring
But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I joined my family's group chat for the NY Times games and got to air my grievances. I feel seen..
A guy flipped me the bird in traffic 3 days ago and I'm still thinking about it. His was an overly aggressive amount of finger waving given the horn but then it turns out I was wrong and shouldn't have honked bc what he did was legal. Let it go brain!!
having one of those weeks that gives me flashbacks to covid. juggling sick kids, childcare, and work schedules 😮💨
we need to storm SAS and free this domain. such BS they've squatted it.
How did Elastic adding a more open source license not make the rounds when they announced it?? www.elastic.co/blog/elastic...
Elasticsearch Is Open Source. Again!
Elastic announces the return of open source licensing for Elasticsearch and Kibana, adding AGPL as an option alongside existing licenses. This change reinforces our long-standing commitment to open so...

see? @jlowin.dev was right - you should've changed your title to analytics engineer!
the lesson here is don't let your kids grow up to be a data engineer
The shooter went crazy after using Hadoop, Mapreduce, and Hbase for 4 years. I get it tbh
so I use SwiftKey on ios and it's better than the native keyboard but it still sucks. the swipe gesture doesn't spell very common words. "I'm at the aurora" instead of "airport" 🙄
Is it just me or is the new iOS keyboard horrible? I've made so many more typos lately, and the autocorrect is wildly off way more often than usual!
How many of these (very real!) Texas towns can you pronounce? Mexia Gruene Refugio Humble New Braunfels Boerne Lazbuddie Waxahachie Palestine Burnet Manor Iraan Study Butte Jiba Dumas Luckenbach Palacios Nacogdoches Uhland Pyote Yoakum Bowie Elgin Buda Bosque Bexar
I wonder what it's like for folks who outsource their thinking on an topic this much. Probably very highly paid sadly...
Can someone check in with Gartner? They’re not okay. They are crying out for help.
I need a 10 minute max recap for The Stormlight Archive. I started reading this series during covid and I remember ~50% of it... I don't want to have to reread everything... but also it's so good...
Hey #databs - what data conferences are you planning to go to in 2025? Could be anything, vendor-specific or not.
