#SumLuv I don't have one in my current WIP. But actually I do! It's complicated. In a world, hidden from view, you can meet someone multiple times, you see. It is also a very very very cliché one. I don't mind them. They are instant character-building devices. Sometimes that should be allowed.

"In which somebody runs into somebody else, and then something falls, and they begin to talk, and their eyes meet and they realize they are attracted to one another" —Rodger Ebert Do you have a classic one? Or one that passes 😆 Did you avoid altogether? Snips welcome! #SumLuv

Romance Writers Summer of Love #SumLuv @EllieYellu Day 3: The Meet Cute. How do you feel about it? Do you have one?

Hi, #SumLuv. I am working on finishing up my very first novella. Always writing, first time actually finishing. My current WIP started as a pure short, but I expanded it into a romance of a certain sort. It won't be for everyone. But I guess I'm not writing for everyone. Never been able to.

Romance Writers Summer of Love #SumLuv @EllieYellu Day 1 Introductions: Welcome! Introduce yourself!

These past couple #PretendPanel questions made me figure this out for myself: I think I like the descriptions/expositions as lush or as vague as they come. As long as I don't notice it. Once I start noticing (regardless of the approach) my immersion faceplants.

Thinking about things from the other side, #PretendPanel: As a reader, do you prefer lush, detailed descriptions, or books that leave things vague so you can fill in with your own imagination? Is this different or the same as your writing preferences?

I'll have to rewrite my final bondage scene. I winged it and turns out after uhm, research, I got some of the physics quite wrong. "Legs don't bend that way", was the actual result, I think. Wish I were an AI and simply not care that legs clip through each other and physical reality doesn't exist.

Reading through #PretendPanel reactions for these, I guess I'm an odd one out. Only being really visually descriptive when the scene is centered around that fact. I'll explain the complexities of bodyparts wrapped up in rope, in 5k words. But after 40k, you'd still not know the color of her hair.

It's time once again for #PretendPanel! This week, we discuss visual descriptions in prose. As a writer, how much detail do you like to include in your visual descriptions?

#SundaySnips I have decided this counts. I mean, all letters are there. It should! "Grillig" means "erratic". Kind if. This is from an old script that I wrote when I was in my 20s. It was still kicking around on an old Dropbox. And it is the single largest piece of prose I have written yet

Dutch text, reading:
"Achter me, het massieve geheel van de continentale landmassa. Voor me, het even kolossale volume water. Daartussen, als een krijtlijn, zo ver het oog reikt, de witte rand die deze twee entiteiten van elkaar gescheiden houdt. Grillig en variabel, maar ogenschijnlijk voor de eeuwigheid vastgelegd."

It loosely translates to:
"Behind me, the massive whole of the continental landmass. In front of me, the equally colossal volume of water. Between them, like a chalk line as far as the eye can reach, the white border that keeps these two entities separate. Erratic and changeable, yet apparently fixed for eternity."

Welcome to #SundaySnips! A once-a-week prompt game for writers hosted by myself and @hookandquillpress.com This time of year is full of BBQs and backyard gatherings. Grillbert's watching the burgers so you can share a grill related snip. #WritingCommunity #Writingprompt #Writesky #HQpress

A graphic advertising the Sunday Snips hashtag, a weekly blue sky writing community tag. The word for July 5 is grill. Share a snip from your WIP featuring the word of the week. Use #SundaySnips and don't forget to include alt text. Synonyms, vibes, and variations on the word are welcome! Hosted by woodenvelt.bsky.social and Hook and Quill Press. The background is a green grass lawn. There is an image in the bottom left corner of a yellow octopus stuffed animal sitting on top of a charcoal grill wearing a chef’s hat that says Grillbert and holding a spatula and large fork. In the top right corner there is a graphic of mustard and ketchup bottles.

About to break 40k words on this story. Pretty excited. It started as something cute and short. Just Kate, getting an initiation into the world of rope bondage. Turns out, I can build a novella off of that premise. Surely nobody has done that before.

A graphic from a writing tracker. Showing 38414 words total in a story called 'rope'. 3185 words written today. It shows 6 days of tracking at 1644 words per day.

After a long pause, wanted to draw again. Searched a cute reference, started doodling, and after about thirty minutes, realized that my reference was ai slop. I'll be in the corner. Having a moment for a sec.

This #PretendPanel is related to the previous. I rarely do extensive description. Some casual hint at appearance that carries over in the mental image. Nothing extremely detailed unless things absolutely require it. A reader can project appearance into a character quite well. So I don't bother.

Happy Saturday, #PretendPanel! Continuing the theme of visualization: How do you decide what you want your characters and settings to look like? Do the details hold significant importance for you, or do you mostly follow a vibe?

Yesterday's and today's #PretendPanel I'd like to think so, but I don't. I have a clear picture before I send characters into a scene, and then they do something stupid. And I have to adapt. It makes for chaotic flows sometimes. Having to go back and rewrite things because I broke continuity.

Happy Friday, #PretendPanel! I'm your guest host, Lizzie Blackwood, here to start us off: There are many ways the brain may process and internalize visual information. Do you have a “mental picture” of your story as you write? If so, what does that look like? And if not, what do you "see" instead?

Maybe I should just focus on #writing one thing and finish it, in stead of just starting a new one every time I get horny about something and just plow 10k words into it before abandoning it. "Rope" is coming along. I will aim for around 40k and then start editing. #smutsky #erotica
