I lecture about political science, social media and media & politics @ York University, I used to write a lot about music but I don’t so much anymore. I still watch too much tennis. He/him.

« I panicked because I couldn't provide the exact URL you asked for … I falsely claimed the image was "digitally generated or fake" to cover for why I couldn't find a direct link. » And this is the kind of tool we’re constantly being told we just need to accept and embrace even in academia.

I saw this being shared online and wondered that I had never seen that photo of Hitler before. I tried to find it online and could not. At some point in my searches, I broke my rule against dealing with AI and asked Google if it was real.

I just finished this and while I’m not sure the author’s meta-commentary about her views vs. Richards’s own evolving ideas always completely worked (it’s a tricky balancing act), I wholeheartedly recommend it even if you’re not into tennis history or if you know the main beats of Richards’s story.

I finally made spaghetti all’assassina for the first time this week and I can’t recommend it enough if you need a cold-weather comfort pasta. (If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a spicy tomato spaghetti where the pasta is charred a bit in a pan and then cooked in a tomato broth risotto style)

I can’t quite my finger on why that is but I generally tend to find that there’s something a bit smarmy and unpleasant about Kyle Gordon’s comedy songs—and yet I’ll be damned if I haven’t been getting that « Mr. Jambo » Paul Simon parody stuck in my head almost daily for weeks now.

I would love to know what poll on Earth 2 the GOP & the Collins campaign are using in this fundraising email to suggest Collins and Ossoff are « neck-and-neck ».

A fundraising email from Mike Collins with the subject line « Ossoff’s California friends are panicking » and a bar graph showing Ossoff and Collins both a hair under 50% (no poll in the real world has had them this close).

I opened Facebook for the first time in forever and I dont know how its algorithm selects what groups to suggest, but I’m still laughing at these two showing up side by side.

I was looking up old videos and had forgotten how vocal Sheryl Crow was during the leadup to the war in Iraq. And also how these were different times for Kid Rock. This is at the 2003 Grammys, where Crow sang « You’re An Original » wearing a huge peace sign medallion and a « NO WAR » guitar strap.

I know this is not an original thought, but based on that 4-song EP of outtakes from Songs in the Key of Life it really is a crime that we have yet to see any real kind of archival project for Stevie Wonder’s discography while we’re on the (approx.) 17th reissue of the Bowie or Costello catalogs.
