everybody wants the outcome of being hired. nobody wants the micro-interactions that create the outcome. the comment. the dm. the 15 minute call. thats literally how getting a job works in todays market.

when an interviewer asks about a time you had conflict: cant think of one > bad have too many examples > bad talking in hypotheticals > bad one specific story you helped resolve > good you led it and went with their idea > great

how to read a company from its interview process: >fast rejections mean they respect your time >consistent questions mean they know what they want >endless rounds mean indecision runs the org the process is the culture.

if a company runs you through five rounds and then says youre not a fit, you were a fit. you were a fit for five rounds long processes arent rigor. theyre indecision and indecision at the interview stage is indecision everywhere else in that company

spoke with someone yesterday looking for a job. told them while you have a job meet 3 people a week >a recruiter >someone in your network >a stranger that stranger needs to be someone in the role you want next to pick their brain

heres how hiring actually works. the team maps the skills they already have, finds the hole, and hires for the hole you can outcode every person who interviewed you and still get rejected because you werent the missing piece rejection is rarely a verdict on your ability

ive been calling this the great hesitation companies arent not hiring. theyre terrified of a bad hire so they want proof you can do the job before you get the job fair or not thats the market. the people winning right now are showing not telling

if youre junior and worried ai is making you skip the fundamentals: lean into ai as hard as you can every time it does something you dont understand stop and go figure out why that gap is your study guide marrying the two is where its at

hot take: the models are the worst theyll ever be today if youre the person saying no to ai right now youll be the person saying no next year when the gap is 3x bigger the delta only grows

ive watched this movie before. when react came out people said its a fad im sticking with jquery the people who refused to adopt it had problems finding jobs for years the ai holdouts today are the jquery guys of this cycle

the thing nobody talks about with in demand skills reports is theyre a year behind by the time theyre published the market is shifting on an order of weeks right now if youre planning your next move off a dice report youre already late
