the end of summer

a bluish dragonfly clings to a thin branch, its wings outstretched and its abdomen hanging down. the background shows more branches and leaves further behind, blurry and out of focus.

the same dragonfly, now further away and shown against the overcast sky. the surface of a lake is visible, and some grassy plants poke out of the calm water. the opposite shore is dense with trees.

A white breasted nuthatch creeps down a tree, only its back and tail visible. It’s dark gray in the center-ish. Branches are in the way, with most leaves and needles a dark green, but the most immediate foreground leaves are a brighter green with bright yellow leaves on the center right. The yellow leaves kind of frame the nuthatch :)

mallards rest and preen on a rock just past the shore of a lake. further back, some ducks float on the surface. some grass-like plants shoot out from the surface at various angles.
