Our director Simon delivered the first of three guest keynote talks hosted by the HEY BaG group (Hull & East Yorkshire Biodiversity Action Group) this past Thursday, on our role as a LERC and how what we do can feed into the future aims of HEY BaG. Thanks to the group for inviting us!

The latest NEYEDC/Artbomb collaboration launched in Doncaster last Friday eve. The installation Eco-Sound System was developed by the Kalabash arts collective and lets people interact in real time with sounds, images and data collected in Doncaster over 12 months 🔊 www.artbombuk.com/post/kalabas...

Our EIO Lucy has been hard at work analysing data for one of our local recorders, using records of farmland birds & crop type data to determine if species show crop preferences. It's great to see so many projects awarded @naturalengland.bsky.social Species Recovery Programme funding in the Yorkshire region, from threatened invertebrates to projects for Black Grouse, White-clawed Crayfish, and the Scarce Vapourer. With the warmer weather starting up again, it's been a great opportunity for some local moth trapping. Our EDO Hannah has been trapping at Hassacarr Pond Nature Reserve, just by our offices in Dunnington, and caught these beauties this morning - Beautiful Hook-tip, Silver Y, and Smoky Wainscot 💡

NEYEDC will be attending and acting as the Data Hub for Yorkshire Water's upcoming Bioblitz at Swinsty Reservoir, taking place on Friday 24th - Saturday 25th July. Come along and join in recording at the site & join in with moth trap openings, guided walks, pond dipping, and more 🔎

Our resident Hassacarr Close Oystercatcher chick is now all grown up, and looking more and more like its parents every day. We're expecting any day now to be our final glimpse before it fledges and takes off into the wider world!

It may not be good for barbeques and beach trips, but grasslands and wetlands are flourishing at the moment in the wet weather. Last week our surveyor was lucky to visit two damp pasture sites near the Lancashire border which were awash with wildflowers and an impressive range of sedges! 💧

Our resident chick is growing! In just a week, our office's young Oystercatcher is looking noticeably bigger and more like its parents, including in its distinctive beak. Hopefully it'll soon grow into its feet! The family are now venturing further around the office estate 🐥

Our local Oystercatcher pair chose an interesting place to nest this year...on a tiny patch of gravel right outside of our offices! Watching mum, dad, and their growing chick over the last few weeks has brought us a lot of joy - enjoy some pictures of the happy family! 🪶🐥

We're helping a local recorder complete a lovely piece of work at the moment, digitising & analysing records of birds and the crops they associated with on the Wolds, collected over 14yrs 🌽 Analysis will attempt to determine if species have a crop preference & which variables might influence this.

We completed our 9th consecutive year of drone flights at High Batts nature reserve this week, as part of their 'In at the Start' project: highbatts.org.uk/in-at-the-st... The images generated from the flights help monitor how the site's working quarry develops, and its impact on species 🌳
