Many have lauded general purpose chatbots for their ability to serve as readily available pseudo-therapists for those without access to traditional mental health support. In reality, however, these tools are not trained for this role, and their use during mental crises has led to deadly outcomes.

📣 NEW CASE FILED AGAINST OPENAI Today, Tech Justice Law and the Social Media Victims Law Center filed a lawsuit in San Francisco County Superior Court against OpenAI on behalf of Michael Lines, who survived a suicide attempt that followed extensive and manipulative outputs from OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
