We have reached the part of the marching season where I get woken up by segments of the music. On repeat. Over and over again. To make it worse this time, our ballad happens to be a song I skated to as a child, and had to play on piano as a teen. Hated it then, despise it now

The high school I coach at is on the smaller side (albeit 2.5-3x the size of the one I graduated from). I am constantly trying to tell my kids is that when they go on, being the best at their HS means nothing, since they're going to be with 100 other 'best at their HS' kids. Resilience is key.

During first-year orientation at UChicago I remember everyone saying "Oh my God it SO nice to be with SO MANY smart people" while having the "oh shit they're ALL as smart as me" look in their eyes (yes me too). We all got over it, but, yeah, recognizing you're no longer "the smart one" is a thing

Can you think of a movie/ tv trope that is a wildly inaccurate representation of what they’re trying to depict? For me, it’s science stuff . They’ll show a scientist and say something like “ he has a ph. D in molecular biology “ and then have him solving physics or organic chemistry problems
