Vidya archeologist, article writer, and author of very bad literature I also do horrifically nerdy archeological stuff for TES: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/User:TheRockWithAMedicineCupOnHisHead https://blog.uesp.net/author/therockwithamedicinecuponhishead/
Somehow this detail never came up in my interviews with early designers on the project. ESO was originally titled "The Elder Scrolls: Origins" back in the early aughts Leadership decided to change it since *could* sound confusing for DLCs, and also made the game sound too much like a direct prequel
“There is something about being very rich and insulated from the consequences of your actions that makes you solipsistic. You cannot make billions of dollars without hurting lots of people. And you can’t hurt lots of people without, in some sense, believing that they’re not really people.”
Aight. No clue if this was intended by the devs or not, but your evil butler in BG3 is *totally* a twisted version of Jiminy Cricket and its rad.
gdcvault.com/play/1034594... Eyy the GDC postmortem by the original devs for Elder Scrolls Arena has finally been released on GDC Vault. I consulted just a little on topics worth covering and gave em some pics to use. Nice to finally see it go public!

WIP screenshots from my Custom Names add-on for Elder Scrolls Online. Allows one to alter Place/Zone/NPC names to whatever you'd like on the fly. An optional download will include a pack of my own lore based name changes.
Went down a *stupidly convoluted* rabbit hole, but with a lot of elbow grease I managed to get my hands on the long lost Official Game Map for Skyrim from the iPhone App Store -- which we all thought was pretty much lost media Looks pretty neat
One of my favorite dumb things to do is to look up Inspirational Quotes on google images and then hunt to the most horrifically cheesy representations of them possible Then I send them at my friends DMs unironically
From Julian LeFay's TTRPG Archives: The Potion of Beard Growing While not related to Elder Scrolls at all, the imagery is Dang Amusing
One thing Oblivion did which was pretty clever was screenshotting an NPC and slapping a watercolor filter over it to make it look like a painting It's a cheap but fairly effective way of adding a historicity to the spaces you're playing in. And I wish they would've done it more throughout the game
We have been granted access to even more from the estate of the Father of The Elder Scrolls, Julian LeFay. There is still even more we want to explore in-depth, and even more that we're working on preserving down the line, but today we wanted to share some high quality art scans. 1/4

Man I'm getting pretty tired of all these CGI fungal/sand/floral/barf tv intros that are entirely deficient in narrative protein It was cool when Daredevil did the original goop version a decade ago, but now every other show is doing it. Please stop sending goop to my television, I beg of you
Funnest of facts: The 'The Elder Scrolls Chapter One: The Arena' video game has a bunch of temples dedicated to mega obscure deities and subjects of Tamriel. And @jeffperryman.bsky.social did up a bunch of neat wall art and iconography for all the various temple types across the world's biomes.
Begin rant: Something I've become quite fond of in long-form fiction is characters that come from actual families and have family trees. That's easily my favorite setting feature of A Song of Ice & Fire Witness below the incredible McCallister family tree lore from the small indie film Home Alone!
Something that has been lost over the years is the original "solar system" Julian LeFay created for the planet of The Elder Scrolls: Arena. It features a number of coloured blue and red stars, as well as a bunch of planets that have yet to re-appear in the series =🌟🌟🌟= en.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:S...

As someone who has spent a not small amount of time digging into Julian's works and legacy, this news is painful. I met Julian in person last month and phoned with him couple times before that. He was generous, honorable, and nothing short of a craftsman. My best wishes to his family and friends.
Yo! I just found a new digital Daggerfall press pack found from mid 1994, earliest pics of Daggerfall around! @tedpeterson.bsky.social
Besides all the really important work that the IA does for politics, health, history, and culture in general, the study of Elder Scrolls lore would suffer an irreparable damage if the Wayback Machine were to disappear. Old threads, websites, and manuals are all hosted there. Pitch in, if you can!
📢 The Internet Archive needs your help. At a time when information is being rewritten or erased online, a $700 million lawsuit from major record labels threatens to destroy the Wayback Machine. Tell the labels to drop the 78s lawsuit. 👉 Sign our open letter: www.change.org/p/defend-the... 🧵⬇️
A suburb post by @drnightstone.elderscrolls.social detailing the roots of TES mythmaking "No point in being part of history if you're too ignorant to understand it."
Tamriel: The Loveletter to Glorantha This is an article I have been meaning to write for a while now and it is finally finished! I talk about how the world of Glorantha heavily inspired some key aspects of The Elder Scrolls from the Redguard-Morrowind period and forward. drnightst.one#es-44
Through some way crazy interneting via archive.org, I found a press pack with the raw screenshots from very first Elder Scrolls game back in 1993. Behold yo, the very first glimpses of Tamriel to the public:
After playing through Oxenfree I can no longer casually listen to ukulele music of any sort without a small but significant part of my brain thinking there's a spooky demon ghost plucking the strings
